Re: Suburbs - General Topics

WHS, you posted a link and said suburban schools are demonstrably superior to city schools. Now that you've walked back to say that high-poverty schools perform worse than low-poverty schools, I can certainly agree. You could have just said that from the start, but you didn't and so we pushed back.

Re: Suburbs - General Topics

When I compared a central city school with RFP student percentages similar to suburban schools, I could see nothing that would indicate that suburban schools did any better.
Precisely what I was trying to say, just with a mess of percentages to render it unclear. Haha.

Re: Suburbs - General Topics

Poor kids do better in suburban schools than poor kids in urban schools. So do special ed kids, minority kids, ESL kids, and any other cohort you can think of. This can easily be confirmed by examining the data link in my post above. The key here is that some suburban schools are better than some c...

Re: Suburbs - General Topics

What first ring suburbs have better schools than the city and are cheaper than the city? Edina/St. Louis Park have good schools but are very expensive. Roseville, Richfield, Robbinsdale, Brooklyn Center, Columbia Heights, Maplewood, West St. Paul have fine schools, but they aren't an better than the...

Re: Highland Park Target Express

Must be a portion of the Barnes and Noble, beacuse that store as a whole would be about the size of a regular Target.
It's about 1/7th the size of the Hiawatha/Lake Target. It looks to be about 15,000 sq ft and the Hi-Lake Target is 125,000 sq ft. The Dinkytown Target Express is 20,000 sq ft.

We have USI wireless and love it. Works just fine, it's super cheap, and we don't have to deal with Comcast.

Re: Grocery Stores

Only been to the Uptown Cub once, but typically Cub's prices were lower than Rainbow's. And certainly significantly lower than Lund's. Random anecdote that carries no weight here but I once found the exact same package of soba noodles on the same day at Lund's for $9.50 and at Cub for $2.15.

As far as road were built for bikes, you are going back about 80 years with your rediculuos argument Minneopolsite. As I stated before, trunk highways were built for commerce. That was all defined in the late 40's and 50's after World War 2.

Emphasis mine.

Re: MSP Airport

If I'm going to be stuck in a terminal waiting for a flight, I might as well be able to enjoy myself. That's true, but the great thing about T2: Judgement Day is that the security line is so short and the walk so easy that you can time your arrival so that you don't have to be stuck in a terminal. ...

Yeah, there isn't one. They put 90% of their energy into shows and maybe 10% into food and such. They should just have some other restaurant use the space during the mornings and they could take over at night.

That's the west side of 35E, but it should be a nice little addition. Doesn't make up for removing the gateway bridge though.

Will they also promote helmet usage for regular household chores, driving, walking around, etc?
Are you regularly a few feet off the ground on a wobbly object while moving >10 mph when you wash your dishes? If so, maybe you ought to be wearing a helmet.

Re: Ayd Mill Road

I still think Ayd Mill Road would be a perfect spot for a streetcar line. Connecting downtown St Paul to the Green line either at Raymond Station, West Gate or Prospect Park. It doesn't look like there is enough room in the rail line from Lexington over to downtown. Would you just run it down Rando...
