Re: Uptown Theatre
I thought the McDonalds was the heart of some uptown music scene that existed before a lot of us were born, so people think it is historic or culturally significant.

Re: Uptown Theatre
I can't believe there's no 3+ story development on either side of Hennepin between Lake and Lagoon.

Re: Trader Joes (Lyndale and 27th)
Isn't part of Uptown's cachet that it's close to so many businesses? Is Meg concerned more with a Trader Joe's than with the national chain bro bars coming in?

This is why the new 610 bridge is needed... http://goo.gl/maps/HRu6e Sad, considering that bridge is probably <20 years old.

Re: Northstar
Just found another document.... http://www.dot.state.mn.us/federalrecovery/docs/bnsfpassengerrail.pdf Although I'm assuming this was turned down for TIGER funding, I bet the BNSF easement work would remain the same. There's currently a 12-trip easement. This looks like it's used by all the scheduled...

Park and Portland Avenues
I know there have been plans floating around to reduce the road from three lanes to two and put a cycletrack on the right hand side protected by parking. Here's another idea I had... How about half-multiway-boulevards? :) From the right hand side of the ROW going left, there would easily be enough s...

Re: Adagio at Hoigaard Village - St. Louis Park
Not sure if it's feasible now, but it would be ideal to have TC&W and SWLRT grade separate into a cut underneath Wooddale. 36th could even be extended west on a bridge over TC&W and SWLRT to match the Lake Street/South TH-7 Frontage Road.

Re: Smaller Scale High Density Housing.
Agreed, it's similar to the townhomes that wrap the north side of the parking ramp across from Midtown Market. I like it a lot!

Re: Green Line (Central)
A floating slab, right? And maybe they're doing some sort of special caisson up against the MPR and church foundations... It looked dug out very deep when I was there a week ago.

MSP Airport
Just a thread for MSP Airport and possibly MN aviation topics. A good resource to follow is http://www.mspspotters.net/ for airline service changes. Curious about the plans to expand MSP past the G concourse... it sounded like a new international hall would be built there, and even new front of hous...

Re: Vikings Stadium
I just don't see how the type of park DTE needs is congruent with tailgating uses. Can you imagine tailgating in Rice Park, Mears Park, Gold Medal, etc?

Re: Vikings Stadium
A soccer or football field occupying block(s) in downtown is not the highest and best use regardless of if there's tailgating there 10x a year.

Re: Office Market
The problem with that mindset is embodied by this list... a friend of mine is looking to buy a townhome or something in E.P. since buying is cheaper than rent, but his company is on this list looking for new space. He assumes his company will always be in E.P. and that he can engineer a 5 minute com...

Re: Office Market
I really wish we'd see the end of major growth in suburban corporate campuses (at least the ones which require new interchanges, only accessible by car, etc.) It's really a shame companies still think this is what employees want. I've turned down gigs because they're at some corporate campus outside...

Maybe in 50+ years with fewer cars, we could see a redevelopment of garage/alley footprints for residential uses. THAT would be cool!

Re: Renting vs. Owning
I was almost going to say the opposite... buying seems like the slam dunk. Prices are actually affordable now, interest rates are at historic lows, and rents are at historic highs (even if you can negotiate a deal for being a good and loyal tenant). Specifically our market has a price to rent ratio ...
