Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

Reminder: A tunnel from where the 7th Stroad (easy median ROW) ends near Plymouth Avenue to where the Bottineau Stroad (easy median ROW) starts near the city limits is about the same distance as the tunnel built for the Blue Line under MSP airport . There are also significant areas that could be cut...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis - News & General Topics

If there's going to be any circulator, it's going to serve Downtown-Riverside-Campus-Northeast one that runs in a Washington-University loop. Gondolas radiating out from a downtown hub, maybe on the near-block of surface parking between Warehouse District LRT, Butler Square, and Glueks.... gondolas...

Re: Southside - News & General Topics

On another note, is there any *accountability* for actually performing according to a travel demand management plan? I used to work for another large institutional employer on the greenway who had TDMPs for their greenway campus in the public record (old planning documents, etc). And then you could ...

Those downtown tracks are likely to just go away in a few years. Most of the customers have closed recently.

If you’re on the south side, this lines up with 17th Avenue. A new terminating vista!

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction (Douglas to Lake St)

Well this would be one way to prevent left turns onto curb cuts off of Hennepin.

Bollards like this, but a busway....

Re: South Nicollet Ave - Lake to Crosstown (Lyndale-Kingfield-Tangletown-Windom)

Looks like a project may be brewing on the SW corner of Nicollet and 43rd (kitty-corner from Revival). Midwest Cycle supply closed last year and Roadrunner Records just announced a move down the street (to 4534 Nicollet), the latter citing "they learned last year that their landlord planned to sell...

But I guess when you pay a consultant 50 grand or whatever, they aren't going to suggest calling something what it's already called (even if informally).

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

While it's not as egregious as 21st St Station, the area of Bryn Mawr near Penn Ave Station is very underzoned in 2040 as well. Unsurprisingly, another area represented by CM Goodman. The Penn corridor is interior 3 and everything else is interior 2. Single family homes a few hundred feet from the P...

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

Smart people studied putting LRT on Broadway. There's a good reason that it was dismissed as on option.
Are those the same smart people that got us a mile-long $160 million tunnel along Southwest LRT so that freight trains can operate above light rail trains?

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

I do actually agree that at-grade LRT on Penn or Broadway would probably be bad. Broadway could be at-grade on the stroady part until North Memorial / Victory Parkway, but then ideally it could head underground. An underground section from where Broadway de-stroads just east of Victory to where 7th ...

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

And the magical thinking that you can have a 10' drive lane smacked right up against the curb without accounting for the gutter and snow storage is a streets.mn classic. (Not that it was a good thing) This was permissible all over the city when engineers wanted to cram in Four Lane Death Roads all ...

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and Intercity Rail to Chicago

IMO there should be something like 3-4 trains PDEW CHI-MSP in addition to the Empire Builder. If the eastbound EB is on time, it lashes up with the regional train. If not, it lashes up with the next train and so on.
