Re: Minneapolis City Politics General Discussion

Frey is considered quite liberal by statewide standards. The Minneapolis political spectrum is very different from the metro or the state as a whole.

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

Given that labor costs and shortages are a pretty big obstacle for almost every US transit system,

Too bad we didn't start with an automated light metro 25 years ago. Given how much grade separation there is on the Green Line extension, it wouldn't have been much of a stretch for that corridor ...

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors

Revisiting an idea I had earlier - instead of extending the C Line down Cedar, how about a Cedar Avenue line from 66th Street up to 7-corners, then doubling up service on the H Line segment through campus (Washington SE>Pleasant/15th>Como) then maybe 18th/Stinson to the Quarry.

Thinking of a ...

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors

Is there a way to provide ABRT service on some segments but branching on others?
For example, have services running as H1, H2, H3 but all share a common H-Line segment.
It would work easier if all branches could support minimum-standard ABRT, since then the primary corridor would host multiple ...

Re: South Nicollet-Lyndale-Kingfield-Tangletown-Windom

Reminds me of a concept I drew up years ago to extend 60th St west from Nicollet to Lyndale, then flow it directly into 121/I-35W south.
This would involve some ROW acquisition, including the south side of the Bachmann's property, the Uber property, and the backside of the cement plant, and cut ...

Re: Midtown Greenway Trail [not the transit thread]

Anyone know what those mills actually do? Seems like it's grain storage and transload from truck to rail. Which makes me wonder how it's viable in the modern industrial era to truck grain into the center of a large metro for transload.

Re: City Center

I just don't see it as a suitable arena site either. It's only marginally larger than the Target Center block. If that parcel was big enough, then we'd be seeing a proposal to have Lynx/Wolves play in St. Paul for a year or two while a new arena is built on the existing Target Center footprint. But ...

That paired with a covert group actively seeking ways to bankrupt those businesses that still use it that would make the need to keep it for the railroad...

46 also provides some important connectivity for areas north and west of Hiawatha Golf Course that are far from the 14 and 22. It will be even more important once most of the 14E frequencies are eliminated.

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

Makes sense once we think of the federal government as a constituency of the states just as much as it is a constituency of citizens. Maybe the problem is that we've let the federal government become far too powerful, and this problem can be solved by returning power and moving function to the state ...
