Re: Amtrak: Empire Builder and Borealis (TCMC)

As I've mentioned elsewhere, seems like there should be a full double track main from Mpls Jct to the Target Field station throat. Currently it's a single track main with a siding, so there are two single track choke points. Upgrading this to have double crossovers at each end would significantly im...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar

North of Randolph, where things start to get tight on West 7th, you have a sheer cliff separating the rail corridor and Shepard from the neighborhood all the way through downtown. Running LRT down there would be repeating everything that people here criticize about SWLRT. In a world where there was...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar

Years ago when the Lake Street corridor was studied, it was decided that both ABRT (B Line under construction) and streetcar could be pursued, and the choice wasn't one or the other. Critical to this is obviously that they're in separate corridors even if only a block apart. Even though the Midtown ...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar

The metro counties probably shouldn't exist anymore, and there should probably be one metropolitan county, but no one's ready for that conversation yet. This would be quite the way to turn MN red in a hurry. Large portions of the suburbs/exurbs would revolt before tolerating more regional governanc...

Re: Amtrak: Empire Builder and Borealis (TCMC)

Hasn't Foley Blvd been studied for an infill station for commuter rail and possibly a TCMC terminus? The main advantage for Anoka is that it's a walkable downtown of a county seat a half mile from the station. But lots of other advantages to a Foley Blvd station: - South of Coon Creek Jct, where the...

$5 million per block... you'd think a bus tunnel would have been in the budget.

How about north of MOA? We can call it the Met Center. Maybe a friendly guy named Norm will buy the team from Glenn Taylor.

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

There's precedence for ticketing arrangements via Amtrak, correct? For example, Sounder commuter rail tickets were, at least at one time, valid for Seattle-Everett even on the Empire Builder. Metrolink/LA may also have this arrangement. In the reverse, Amtrak has ticketed non-Amtrak-operated routes ...

yeah sorry that was snark Wild turn of events. From the story you posted: Minneapolis police and community groups cleared a former Sheraton hotel Monday morning, following several days of 911 calls and reports of gunfire, sex trafficking and drug dealing. “It was just inhabitable for people,” said V...

Re: Midtown / Phillips Community - General Topics

10-15 years ago when I worked at WF's HMMC on software implementation, we had consultants that would fly in to work with us most weeks. Some of them would stay at that Sheraton. Did the hotel guests destroy it?

Re: Highway 252 Freeway Expansion

I realize these are not the only two options, but the only two viable options are keep as a nasty high-speed high-volume stroad with 55 MPH traffic stopping at red lights, or a freeway. Looking at freeways like Keystone Parkway in Carmel, IN - do people think MnDOT expressways are preferable?

Strange that the 2 way bikeway on Oak Lake/10th Ave N is on the downtown side of the street from Olson to 7th (in front of WF), then hops across the street for the tiny block between 7th St and 8th Aves (adjacent to that new ugly Metro Transit building) then hops back across the street and tracks to...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar

So it was 15 years ago at this point, but I pitched a plan to: - make Ft Road Bridge to Shepard the through route - use the existing W 7th depression west of Davern for the train - Curve W 7th down Davern to an interchange at New Shepard (a multi-lane roundabout would be a better fit) - regrid the b...

Re: Highway 252 Freeway Expansion

Look at the groundbreaking for the I-94 expansion project from Monticello to Albertville. Freeways and added lanes are one of the last true banners of bipartisanship. Sorry, but I bet even if you surveyed residents of BP/BC, converting to a freeway would win out significantly over concerns about env...
