Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
Other than the interchange with I-35W, I'm curious why this is a MnDOT project? Doesn't T.H. 47 end at Central? Also, if they are redoing the interchange bridges, I wish it would allow the freeway onramps to braid underneath the next block. e.g. turning left from 4th to southbound 35W, the ramp woul...

Re: Amtrak: Empire Builder and Borealis (TCMC)
Or, a related question... how could the 5 Northstar trainsets be put to better use? Probably not for services as long as Borealis, but other services within the state?

Re: Amtrak: Empire Builder and Borealis (TCMC)
There's plenty of capacity at TFS (or the ability to make the planned expansions) to last for decades of rail growth. Generally true. I think the issue is the backing maneuver needed between Mpls Jct (wye just east of Central) to the station. But that shouldn't stop them from extending to TFS whene...

Re: Amtrak: Empire Builder and Borealis (TCMC)
Previous announcements made it sound like there are additional track/corridor improvements planned and funded as part of the TCMC process but not yet built. Do we know what those improvements will be? And will they make an easier path for additional frequencies to be added with less process in the f...

Idea for a full loop airside tram for Terminal 1 that also connects to Terminal 2. - Replaces the Concourse C airside tram - Supplants the proposed Concourse G airside tram. - Supplants the proposed Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 tram. - Takes advantage of planned mid-term reconstruction of the two oldest...

Re: Northern Lights Express
Is there any concept about how this would work as an extension of Borealis? Or how other Amtrak passengers could transfer to Duluth without a Green Line hop? Seems like trains could back up into or out of TFS with the Minneapolis Junction wye (and again, I've suggested they make the double track acr...

Re: Fantasy maps
I have read that the St Anthony bridge (35W) was designed to be "LRT-ready", and your map obviously takes advantage of that, but I've always wondered what that actually means. Like one lane in each direction could handle the weight of LRT vehicles and rails? I always figured this was just...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Seems like park & rides are a quasi-ridership generator, because if someone is parking to ride transit they can probably drive to another nearby place to park and ride transit. Similarly, this is why I'm probably somewhat ok with larger structured parking for park and rides (if priced) vs more a...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Odd enough, the giant extra bays under the sides of the Penn and Lyndale SPUI bridges - which MnDOT made Richfield pay for when those two interchanges were rebuilt in advance of a 494/35W rebuild - are not going to be used per the latest long-term design.

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
From what I can see on MnDOT's website about the 494 project, nothing will be abutting the Best Buy HQ, so I don't see why the park & ride has to be closed for the freeway expansion. I can see it being closed because they're using the parking lot for construction equipment staging, but it would...

Re: Gold Line BRT (Gateway Corridor)
I mean there's probably something to that... all the players here have a deep history building roads and highways, so it's a predictable target to build roads and bridges even if they're dedicated for buses in the end.

Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
Still feel like we should try center-running bus lanes for ABRT somewhere, particularly on corridors with lots of on-street parking, curb cuts, and intersections. https://streets.mn/2018/05/08/a-centeri ... in-avenue/We should also use center-running bus lines whenever we can.

C is for Cedar. Extend the C Line from Downtown to MOA via Cedar Ave.Love that there support for transit lanes, but once again MPLS is showing that they don't support transit and not adding lanes to reconstruction proposals.

Re: B Line Lake St Rapid Bus, Midtown Rail Transit
The only studies I ever saw included a single-track stub terminal sandwiched up against the offramp from southbound Hiawatha to Lake Street, which precludes any sort of expansion or interlining (similar to the problem with the plans produced for West Lake). Long ago, I had produced a map likely link...
