Re: Northern Lights Express
I did not realize this was delayed until I happened to watch a MN House session and everyone was trying to allocate this money to other projects. What a bummer, let's get on it.

Re: Amtrak: Empire Builder and Borealis (TCMC)
I was hoping to ride bike down to Red Wing and ride the train back. Unfortunately they do not allow bikes on board... BOO! I did write them and suggest they improve that. Still excited to try it out this summer.

TIL. This is a really cool service. I'd love for a Southside equivalent. If you live in the service area Metro Transit micro is another option if you want to live car free.

Re: D Line - Chicago-Fremont/Emerson Rapid Bus
D line opening on December 3rd, very exciting as this is my local line. I do appreciate how the stations have made the nodes on Chicago feel slightly more like an urban street car line again. The real time tracking screens are lit up.

As a large fan of both Sterb's AND the Korean Restaurant/Norebang (next to the fire station), I would be devastated to lose the businesses. Ideally they could be preserved, at least Sterb's. I fully agree that Oak/Washington screams so loudly for more dense development, that it is inevitable. I like...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
My experience with the cycle tracks has been mixed... If I am understanding the definition correctly. Basically the sidewalk extends and has a different paint color, so the bike route is on the sidewalk edge. Things I like: they are more permanent; more difficult for a car to block or drive in/on. T...

Re: A Line - Arterial Rapid Bus
46, the route I love and hate. I have lived in it's range for 10 years, yet 3/4 of the time I try to use it I end up either walking or finding an alternative due to the 30 minute frequency. It's so painful because it's such a convenient route to Blue line and the 54/future Riverside. There is a larg...

Re: We have 30 Days of Biking; why not 30 Days of Transit?
As a parent, take your kids! They love riding the bus or the train. It's super exciting for them and others on the bus/train love it too. Plus you're molding a future multi-modal champion. I fully agree that a sporting event (or similar major event) is one of the best motivators to attempt transit f...

Aldi (which owns TJ's) and Aldi Süd is kind of like Fleet Farm vs. Farm and Fleet. Although FF was never a single entity as Aldi once was. I think Aldi is great. It's the same 'sell our own label' model as TJ's with less organics and cheaper costs. Just bring your own bags and coins for a cart.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
I spent a year and a half living on a busy one-way street in a dense neighborhood of Munich. It was a city with about 4-5 times the bikers of Minneapolis and facilities that were a bit better, but attainable in a few years compared to say, Amsterdam. My experience there can probably foreshadow the f...

I have to admit, I didn't think this project would still have legs. We should start issuing some betting lines on a completion vs non-completion and maybe even open up the finish year/month pools.

I would rate the mini-roundabout on Bike Blvds as my favorite relatively low cost improvement.

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar
After this disastrously long Nicollet re-do, it's going to take a long time for the DT businesses to get motivated to lose their street for another few years for a street car. I hope this happens in my lifetime though!

I also lived in South Korea about a decade ago. It was in a small town on the southern coast with about 300k residents, Yeosu. It had a halfway decent transit system, but the area was quite sprawling. It was 1,000 won (~$1) per trip with no transfers. You could indeed get access to nearly the entire...

Re: Highlight Center (Old MPS Headquarters) - 807 Broadway S
Sport Ngin moved in this week. Very cool repurposing of the original materials and features on the interior of what had been kind of a 60s dystopian bureaucratic nightmare interior (think drop panel ceilings and elementary school like finishes). A brewery called Able Brewing is also moving in to the...

As mentioned above, I caught a wrapped train advertisement for some UMN program. I'd imagine that is going to be a popular choice given the prominence to/from campus.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
I hope we all enjoyed the 2 weeks of a "continuous" bike path on the East Bank. They have now shut down the bike path section between The Mall/Church Street for some sort of construction and detoured biked onto the scholars walk. They posted even larger signs that it's illegal to bike on t...
