Re: Amazon's New HQ?

Has anyone from the Twin Cities commented on whether or not we're going to apply? I've seen quotes from other cities but so far I haven't seen anything from either city.

EDIT: Never mind. I see a quote from Gov. Dayton stating he's assigned a committee to try and win over Amazon. I like it! I like!

Re: Amazon's New HQ?

I have a feeling it will definitely be a decent size city, since that's what they want, but not NYC, LA, SF, or Chicago. It's going to be a real fight. I imagine places like St. Louis, Kansas City, Denver and Raleigh-Durham will be submitting proposals. This is a chance for a medium-/medium-large-s...

Re: Amazon's New HQ?

Re: Texas, the absence of a state income tax wouldn't hurt them either. It would definitely be a useful carrot to get people to make the move. Austin would indeed make sense. As for Atlanta, it seems like a good candidate on the surface. But that's Home Depot's HQ, and they've been very successful ...

Re: #pointergate

KSTP has always been the local version of Inside Edition with poor news reporting and reporters. They were going for a big story regardless of its accuracy and a big story they got. Just not the one they wanted. KSTP is a terrible news organization and wonders why they have less than 10 viewers.

Re: Downtown Retail News

Wasn't there talk of a major retailer currently not in the Twin Cities looking at a location downtown? Any more information come from this discussion?

Re: Rumors!

Nick, I find it disconcerting that you as moderator posted that photo. It conveys a message that insulting or hurting people is acceptable on this blog. Does not set a respectful tone for a public forum with a wide diversity of opinions and perspectives. I agree. When the Moderator posts snark, it ...

Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Air Rights Development

Thanks; I was confused about the height so thank you for answering. Another question I have is - with this building containing both residence and a hotel, does anyone know if the majority of highrise buildings in, say Chicago and NYC, are mixed use? Do most of their towers contain both businesses an...

Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Air Rights Development

I'm confused about this. The article states, "...It includes a 150-room hotel branded as Radisson Red "built under a 200-unit apartment tower within a single 27-story structure," according to the city." Does this mean the apartment will be 27 stories tall and the hotel, built und...

Re: Nicollet Mall

i really hate buses on the mall, detracts from what the street could be..truly a pedestrian street in the european tradition. a great walking street. but we just love our buses here and god forbid people have to get off and on at another location. ps i ride the bus every day and have all my life. n...

Re: Nicollet Mall

schmitzm03 - I'm not familiar with Denver's 16th St mall but are there busses that travel along the mall or is it a strictly pedestrian mall like the name implies? I ask because I'm NOT a fan of the busses on Nicollet but I can't focus on that since it's clear the city loves busses on this street an...

Not sure where to put this story but here is an article in MinnPost that agree with what some have been saying around here for years regarding new super tall buildings in Minneapolis. http://www.minnpost.com/minnesota-blog-cabin/2014/02/would-minneapolis-today-oppose-construction-ids-center#comment-...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks

Please excuse my ignorance on this subject, but when building a structure on top of a parking garage, do they typically build the garage in a way that makes the exterior aesthetically flow from the garage to the building above? In other words, if we were walking by the structure, would we be able to...

Re: Minneapolis & St. Paul Fantasies and Speculations

FAO Schwarz! OK, I'll stop. It would be fun if somone who has heard the rumor could tell us if one of us has guessed correctly. Thus far we have, LegoLand, FAO Schwarz, and Creative Kidstuff. You don't need to 'announce' which one, if any of the three, but you could say 'Yes' or 'No'.

Thank God Chicago developers ignored the NIMBY's or else there wouldn't be those great looking towers along Lake Michigan! Do we have more than our share of NIMBY's here in Minneapolis/St. Paul?

Re: Star Tribune Blocks

Rybak said, ”…an icon on the skyline.” When I think of 'an icon on the skyline', I think of tall. I could be wrong. You're right, when Rybak said the words "tower" and "skyline", I thought tall. At this time, the chances of a possible super tall tower on this site are equal to th...

I wonder if Rybak knows something that we don't? In other words, is there a proposal already out there for a 1,000 foot plus tower that we haven't heard of that someone wants to build on this site?

Re: Rumors!

I don't post too much on here but I do check the board on a daily basis - OK; I check the board multiple times a day. I like reading the 'Rumors!' thread because although some (most) of the buildings mentioned in this thread never materialize, it shows me that downtown Minneapolis is on people's rad...
