Re: Mystery Washington Avenue Tower - (301 Washington Avenue
The best parts I've seen so far: A) Will use the Gateway Ramp next door to "provide resident parking without the need for constructing a conventional ratio of parking within the Project" B) Widened public sidewalk on all three streets C) Public skyway access on 3rd Ave S, seperate from sec...

Re: Downtown Office Market
it's all leverage to push xcel to be more green. Which is a dumb move, since Xcel is going green about as fast as they can be, given their current infrastructure, and how screwed Minneapolis would be if they did end up taking over. I'm planning on starting a thread on this later, though. Work becko...

Re: Dinkytown
I measured in Google Earth. Walking distance from the east entrance to the 4th St. Ramp to 4th and 14th: .17 miles. From the entrance to the old UTECH lot to 4th and 14th: .15 miles. That bus is necessary, no one would have walked the extra hundred feet!

Re: Opus Dinkytown Project - (14th Avenue SE & 5th Street SE
They're aware that, if they win, that that won't make the Podium and the Book House come back, and won't save HoH, right? So they'll just have created a dead zone in their precious 4-block district, and the HoH owners will just sell to the next development company to come along?

Re: Green Line (Central)
I see a few people every night on the Stub & Herb's patio, but it's set back behind the building enough that the view won't be great. With Sally's closed, Applebee's and/or Starbucks really is your best bet for outdoor seating. A window seat at Campus Pizza might not be too bad, though, if you'l...

Re: Green Line (Central)
Though it's too late for the current Green Line, the Met Council has seen the light, and the next phase of the line will be routed down a freight corridor, instead of along existing bus lines. Also, Google Maps shows about a fifth of a mile from the Habitat Building to Fairview station, but that's b...

Re: Dinkytown
The DBA is starting a late-afternoon shuttle bus between Dinkytown and the 4th St. Ramp. Cool, I guess, though I feel like 3 blocks isn't really a long enough walk to require a shuttle.

Well, there goes our plan for building an exact copy of Portland's streetcar, I guess.

Re: The Bridges - (950 University Avenue SE)
I suppose they probably do. This will be opening the same time as the Sally's project, starting this week, and is much larger, but they only got a three-month head start. And I'd expect concrete construction to take longer than stick, right?

Re: 301 Walnut (Sally's Building)
I would guess so. July/August to the following August has been the approximate construction timeframe for the other six-story stick student housing buildings around Stadium Village. Although maybe they'll massage the construction order to get Sally's and Goldy's open for as much of the summer as pos...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Awesome. Hopefully paying fair market value will make Ryan more likely to either build something good, or just leave it a park, as opposed to building another parking ramp or 6-story apt building there or something.

Re: MSP Rankings
That's GDP by state, though, not city/metro area. For example, while none of the Columbus metro, the Cincinnati metro, or the Cleveland metro are larger than the MSP metro, they're all in Ohio, so Ohio's population is more than twice that of Minnesota's, and Ohio's GDP is correspondingly higher.

Re: Current University of Minnesota Projects
Welcome to the board, Orbi! I also wish that development would move your way. I'm glad that Stadium Village is booming like it is, but Washington's getting a bit unbalanced. After the Sally's development and WaHu go up, the Chipotle/Punch building will be the only thing keeping Washington from havin...

We knew it was coming, I suppose. So, despite reading through that article, I'm not really sure what municipal bankruptcy entails. I know all the debts are voided, but what else happens? Do all city services shut down? I'm hoping someone on here has some insight into this. Also, if you read through...

Strib article on planned cycle tracks. Looks like the odds are good for Washington, less so for Minnehaha.

Re: Empire Builder
Does the Badger Bus run during the summer? That might be another option. And, from what I hear, at least, you're right, expecting an eastbound Empire Builder to still be on time when it gets to Madison is reeeeeeal risky at the very least. It might deserve a few more "e"s than that.

Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
There's a Walgreen's moving into Stadium Village, just two blocks from the CVS, and there's another CVS in Dinkytown. So, they're at least willing to try. (Although the University area might be a special case, since the Walgreen's will be a block closer to both the freshmen at the Superblock and the...

The Chateau is being threatened? I wish.
Edit: I believe the non-Walgreen's retail in the Station will also be a sushi place. It never rains but it pours.
