Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction (Douglas to Lake St)
The bus lanes are intended to be bus-only (well, and right turns where applicable) 24 hours a day. As for the local stops, I'm not too worked up about the 27th St stop (it's a full half mile between UTS and 25th), but the 24th St one should go, especially since it's SB-only for the 6 and the 12. If ...

Re: Old Thrivent HQ - Sora Apartments & Parking Ramp
I'm hoping this pandemic will lead to improved building ventilation, which will help with not only the acute effects of respiratory pandemics but also a whole host of chronic health issues, instead of just moving the cubes further apart, which, as you say, won't really do much at all. I'm guessing c...

Re: B Line Lake St Rapid Bus, Midtown Rail Transit
Atlanta might use that for their streetcar too? I rode it while visiting a few years ago, and it was obviously the same vehicle as the Metro Transit Type II LRVs, but felt off in a way I couldn't quite place. Could have been that.

Re: B Line Lake St Rapid Bus, Midtown Rail Transit
Definitely agree about the Lake and France station. As for Cretin, one thing Metro Transit's been very intentional about with the BRT line design is having a direct transfer to every intersecting route - hence the three stops in a quarter mile at Nicollet, 35W, and 4th Ave to connect to the 18, Oran...

Re: B Line Lake St Rapid Bus, Midtown Rail Transit
Big week for BRT news: the Draft Corridor Plan has been posted. Probably the biggest surprise is that they're pitching an "Extensive Bus Priority" scenario in which the outer general-purpose lane would become a bus-only lane for the entire width of Minneapolis - from the river to Excelsior Boulevard.

We'll see, but it seems unlikely that an out-of-state multifamily developer bought a lot with an approved multifamily development plan to just demolish the building and sit on the empty lot.

The presentation is up for next Wednesday's Met Council meeting, with the recommendations for the F, G, and H Lines: https://i.imgur.com/frGiskl.png This was the order I was hoping for, so I'm happy to see it. Hopefully the additional $56M in funding for the F Line (over the $25M they'll be allocati...

No, that's Transit 30 and Core 50. Transit 15 has a 4-story minimum. (And Transit 20 has a six story minimum.)

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)
The Cub building is set back about 140' from Broadway - it doesn't look like it would be too challenging to make that turn without touching the building. Trains would have to slow down, of course, but that's not the end of the world, especially with (presumably) a station at Emerson only a quarter m...

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)
Once you've already brought in a TBM, does it really save money to cut-and-cover portions in the middle vs just letting it do its thing?

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)
If this project goes onto Penn Avenue as a streetcar with no dedicated lanes. I will personally collect signatures to try and bring a stop to this and invite anyone interested in joining me. North Minneapolis deserves better transit and the way this project is being rushed feels like we'll end up w...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis - News & General Topics
The biggest advantage of the 16th St Mall, IMO, is that it's solely a pedestrian mall (with a circulator bus). The major bus route spine is a a one-way pair on 15th and 17th. If we routed the Nicollet buses onto 3rd Ave instead (with bus lanes, since it's still a four-lane street), they would be spe...

Wonder if that would include a public (ramped) connection from the Greenway up to Chicago. There's stairs on the south side of the Greenway, but on a bike it's a little out of the way.

Re: Better Bus Routes - Metro Transit
I wonder if this is Metro Transit tipping their hand a bit on the ABRT route selection process. It's hard for me to imagine them doing this if they're planning to replace Route 3 with Como-Maryland BRT in a few years. Having asked this very question to someone on the inside recently, the answer is ...

Better Bus Routes - Metro Transit
I think we've discussed the previous Better Bus Routes projects (Rt 2 and Rt 63) in the Public Transit News/Current Events thread, but that's a little unwieldy and impossible to search, so I'm making a new one. Despite the pandemic, Metro Transit's been pressing ahead with the Better Bus Routes prog...

Re: Highway Transitway Corridor Study
Yep. When the CTIB dissolved, Hennepin (and the other counties) gained the ability to replace that 0.25% transit sales tax with a 0.5% tax. So Hennepin is funding the BBLRT and SWLRT extensions and a piece of Riverview, Ramsey is funding most of Riverview, the Rush Line, and some of the Gold Line, a...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market
In "downtown Minneapolis is dead" news, the submarket had half again as much leasing activity in Q4 2020 than the rest of the metro combined.
