Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors

The aBRT money has to be spent by 2025, according to the bill language, so I'm optimistic that the F Line could be sooner than 2027. Unless there's a reconstruction of Central coming up up that they have to coordinate with (like Hennepin reconstruction delaying the E Line), I don't think there's any...

Re: Downtown Hotel News

Was the downtown hotel building boom we saw from 2016-2019 a nationwide thing, or just Minneapolis? Doesn't seem impossible that they overshot a tad and might have been seeing occupancy issues even in a non-pandemic 2020. (or continue to overshoot, with the double hotel at 10th and Hawthorne still o...

Yeah, same with the years-long lawsuits at 200 Central.

Idk what happened to the tower by the convention center though.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis - News & General Topics

I assumed it was too, but then I expected them to just build an extension of the elevated skyway to connect to 365 Nicollet, not a solid wall down to ground level.

I cannot understand what's happening there. Is it intended to just be the exterior wall for 315 Nicollet when it's eventually built?

I stand corrected - the temporary parking lot proposal was denied by the Planning Commission last night. Unclear whether they will still demolish the building.

I'd like to think that too, but the evidence is that many (not all) business owners would prefer to place the blame on anything else rather than admit that their business, or even a single outpost of their business, couldn't make it forever. The most recent example that comes to mind is I Like You m...

On the edge of my seat waiting for someone to admit in a couple weeks that it's just that their lease was up for renewal and the rent was going further up than they were willing to accept.

Re: Southdale Area - Edina

Looks like 282' for the tower - they did the thing where ground level is 100'-0". Still, it would be the new tallest building in Edina by almost 50'.

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

I believe that. I don't understand either, but anecdotally the Rice/University intersection (where the Green Line is side-running), has seemed like an absolute mess for all modes (train, cars on both streets, peds on both streets) every time I've been though it.

Re: Future of Graco campus - St. Anthony West

Residential is strictly prohibited in Production and Processing, so even that would require a comp plan amendment to Production Mixed Use, which is the category that allows residential as long as there's production space on the ground floor. Like you say, though, this is an isolated industrial use, ...

This area desperately needs a district parking ramp instead of every building providing its own surface lot.

That's correct, it's not. Except when it is, because the CPC loves hearing about plazas and never, ever enforces conditions after the building is built.

Yep. And it's now a separate version, unlike the previous plan which had the underground parking extend under the fire station building. So, it should be faster to build, presumably.

Apparently plans are still iterating, and they're now looking at a 20ish story building with up to 500 affordable units, according to the Star Tribune.

Pretty impressive, and if it keeps doubling in height every year, we'll be looking at a supertall by the time it finally gets built.

It would be cool if they'd finally get around to painting the downtown bus lanes on 7th/8th that were supposed to go in last spring, before traffic picks up too much more.
