Re: Star Tribune Printing Plant Redevelopment

The square footage limitations are a bit of a red herring. Modern data center architecture is extraordinarily power-dense: per this staff report on the conversion of the old Wells Fargo Ops Center , they're getting ~26MW of service but not expanding the existing data halls, they can apparently jam ...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

I know Fridley was working on a way to remove the station platform but keep the tunnel, and possibly extend it so it ramps up to surface level on each end so they don't have to maintain the elevators. Not sure how that's going, though.

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

Kind of wonder if they want Big Lake as a place to park and refuel Borealis trains after a stop in Minneapolis and possibly Anoka? Wasn't the original hang-up about ending in Minneapolis that there that there's no fueling / layover infrastructure at the station?

That's my guess. I suspect they ...

The DGX closed a year or so ago, but the corner space has now become a gallery/marketplace for the Roho Collective . Annoyingly, the ostensibly community-focused space still refuses to unlock its door on the corner of Nicollet and 5th.

The other retail space was leased by Xcel for an Innovation ...

Re: 200 Central (2019) - 293' / 27 Stories

At this point approvals would have expired, and I believe it would have to go through the whole process again, which I'm a little concerned about since the site is zoned Transit 10.

A (much smaller) development did just manage to close on financing less than a mile away, though, so maybe there's a ...

Re: Ridership Trends

One factor is that parallel transit routes to the Green Line have also seen pretty significant improvements over the last few years, which is probably pulling back riders that otherwise would have made a longer trek to the less convenient but more frequent and reliable Green Line. I'm specifically ...

I wonder if anyone's attempted to tease out whether there's been an actual measurable benefit to the carpool exemption. Are people actually carpooling when they wouldn't otherwise be to take advantage of the lanes?

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

I was wondering if they were comparing it to the initial projections for the original Downtown-Uptown-West Lake line originally pitched back in 2015(?!) instead of the Rt. 6 replacement that was actually built, but 2800 riders would be low even for that.

Extremely good to have a "Transit ridership ...

Re: Metro Transit Improvements - Network Now & Better Bus Routes

I guess I don't know what the ridership patterns are like, but it seems unnecessarily confusing to have the 14 serve the Ramp B Transit Center southbound but not even get within a block of it northbound.

That is how the current route 14 works as well, so there's no change there. We typically ...

I'm curious what the city is planning to do with their portion, since EPNI was successful in inflicting the water distribution facility on a different historically polluted neighborhood.

Re: New Basketball Arena Discussion

Also the site dimensions matter, not just the overall acreage. Even if you spend the money to demo the towers, a modern arena isn't going to fit into the 340' between 6th and 7th Streets any better than it fits into the 340' between 1st and 2nd Avenues. Having extra space past the ends of the court ...

Re: Washington Square - 20, 100, 111 Washington Avenue S

Extremely cool, if they can pull it off. Having stuff to activate all the open spaces around the building would be huge for that end of Nicollet. I'm a little curious about all the stuff (ballroom, rooftop pool, presumably catering/support spaces for those) they're planning to jam into the ...
