Re: Uptown hotel discussion
Well, what is the demographic that stays at the Sheraton Midtown? If anything, I would say that hotel is eating into the demand for a hotel in Uptown.

Re: Transit News and Happenings
No, I think calling it racist isn't entirely unfair. Suburban express bus commuters now have new shelters, NexTrip at each stop, and double-wide bus only lanes. North Minneapolis riders now have... a single NexTrip sign and green dashed lines on the sidewalk telling them where they are allowed to st...

Re: Urban/Suburban Lifestyle
Sounds fair to me! And I can tell you from working in the vicinity of Franklin and Nicollet, none of the city folk I come in contact seem at all "off". Just totally normal in every way. Clearly all the crazies live in the suburbs.

Re: Minneapolis Streetcar System
My main problem with Bus Rapid Transit or Rapid Bus projects are that it seems like usually, too many compromises are made. It is very easy to whittle down the amenities here and there because buses really are more flexible than streetcars. No need for curb extensions at all the stops, or off board ...

I haven't heard anything official, but I had assumed that it would open with one of the quarterly service changes, which usually happens in early December I believe.

Re: Transit News and Happenings
So is the plan for improvements for the transit spine on 7th and 8th officially dead? They had planned on splitting the bus routes at this stop between near and far side stops at Nicollet, as well as curb extensions, shelters, NexTrip signs, etc throughout the downtown corridor. Seriously, the fact ...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
I have started to browse through it... Surely they don't plan on building parking at every station west of Van White Blvd? I seem to recall earlier reports saying that every station west of West Lake would have parking, but I assumed a few would get consolidated. I recognize this line will need more...

Welcome, Ottergoose! I am MSPdude on flickr. I don't see any reason there couldn't be discussion of freight trains and infrastructure in the transportation section, if people are interested. I personally am more interested in passenger trains, but I consider myself a Transportation Geek, in general....

Re: Type II LRVs - Siemens S70
I believe the Portland Siemens LRVs always run as married pairs of 2-car trains. The short block length of Downtown Portland prevents trains longer than 2 cars. I suppose Metro Transit could have 2 single ended cars together, and add a third when it is needed, but that seems like it would be logisti...

Re: Vikings Stadium
1. I wonder what happens to the current 5th St exit then. If not for Cedar-Riverside Station being right there, it could be a local street to access downtown (and the stadium) from Riverside Plaza (connect to 15th Av S). At the very least it could be retained as a bike/ped connection. I mean, you w...

Aw, Math is HARD!
I am eager to see how the landscaped pedestrian zone between the tracks turns out. I believe they have already started laying brick there, as well.

Re: Southwest LRT
An undercrossing might be a better term for those tunnels, I doubt they will be very long. There does seem to be a lack of details available on the layout of this line, however. Noticed streetcar rails on girard north of lake- it'd make sense to have rails off hennepin one block so traffic isn't ano...

Re: WaHu Student Housing - (1016 Washington Avenue Southeast
Yeah, it was when they realigned the Huron/Washington/University/Oak St. area to make way for the new Stadium. It used to be a slightly larger triangle, and with the tracks going in, I don't think the remaining land would be very feasible for development, even without a drainage pond. It is somethin...
