Re: Uptown Retail News

They were pretty pricey, but partly because they actually had some really nice stuff. That's sort of the trade-off for vintage clothing stores.

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

I've been twitterizing this, but seriously, how can city folks say it's about the pedestrians/cyclists trying to cross University? Trains come by at most every 10 minutes in each direction, so 5 minute headways til you see a train. It's not, it's a transparent pretext. The Strib editorial pretty mu...

Re: 2014 MN House Election

So we should tolerate some subsidy of financially unproductive growth, but just not as much as we're doing today? I don't understand how that's any better... it still makes local governments poorer, just a little more slowly than the status quo. Why are we afraid of ending a subsidy of a particular...

I don't know; Cromwell and Eustis stop trains a lot, for example (sometimes both, one after the other).

Re: 2320 Colfax Avenue Apartments

This actually isn't an entirely unprecedented idea; there's a structure up the block that also seems to swing behind a SFH, though it's hard to tell from the aerials what the structure is (looks like some sort of parking): https://www.google.com/maps/@44.9597468,-93.2922879,95m/data=!3m1!1e3 It's ha...

What's new that is happening at the beach that hasn't been happening there for years? Legit question as I do not know.

Re: Met Council 2040 Transportation Policy Plan (TPP)

Instead of responding angry, I took a day off and cooled off before doing anything. I highly recommend it! The Increased Revenue Scenario is already $40b. Adding a few more BRT and/or aBRT lines and a couple more LRT lines would increase it by no more than $5b. Don't be a dick and paint my vague dem...

That doesn't include students returning from study abroad, though, who are probably actually pretty likely to be looking for this kind of place.

Re: Met Council 2040 Transportation Policy Plan (TPP)

Frankly, I don't think you understand what the purpose of a vision is. A policy plan should properly focus on needs, prioritizing projects for legislators to later identify funding for. What do you imagine that we have here, if not that? If it isn't as comprehensive and optimistic as the one you're...

Re: Minneapolis Riverfront

Well, here's the problem with that... The reason the falls are the way they are is because they were eroding. They were actually much larger and farther south of downtown Minneapolis a very long time ago. They are where they are at today because they are engineered. If they were left to continue on...

The map I posted above is what they can do if they get much more money than they're expecting. The alternative map (eg. if Republicans win the statehouse, or control the Presidency, etc.) is a lot barer.

Frankly, I don't think you understand the fiscal challenges here.

This is also the nicest-looking fantasy transit map I've seen from the Met Council, even if it's mostly highway BRT:

I do feel bad for her. But when you buy property, you usually think about neighboring properties, viewsheds, etc. If I was going to buy a property with a sweet view of downtown, and I was across the alley from a surface parking lot, I'd probably look at zoning and think about what the possibilities...

And to say that a white person and a black person looking up in the sky, seeing a helicopter, and having a different reaction because of their skin color, is inappropriate. Of course it is. But the fact is that many people of color do feel that way when they see a helicopter. We need to come to ter...

Re: 2014 MN House Election

Pretty sure racism screwed over Detroit and Stockton long before white flight did. You don't go from 100 miles an hour of building suburbs to dismantling them in a day. The point of things like LRT to suburban areas, TOD etc. is to slow suburban growth. The slower suburban growth is, and the faster ...

Gentrification and disinvestment both screw over low-income people; neither of them should be unmitigated.
