Re: Uptown-LynLake-Wedge - News & General Topics

The most recent example that comes to mind is I Like You moving from 1st Ave NE to Johnson St. The first interview with the owner said that they were moving because the neighborhood had changed and become too bustling (a nightmare scenario for a gift shop, I guess), but then a few weeks later she a...

Right. They're way more likely to lose customers by blaming crime and unrest than by saying "Uptown is too expensive, come visit us on Grand."

It’s about 100’, give or take. Still fairly narrow, but feasible.

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

Before anyone asks, Broadway in Robbinsdale is about 66' wide, which is just about impossible to fit surface LRT in unless the street becomes a pedestrian/transit mall.

If Metro Transit took over some of the Red Line operating costs, I bet Dakota would let them extend it wherever they wanted.

Run the Red Line north as a hybrid arterial/highway BRT, and run C down Riverside and Franklin to the Green Line.

Right, no one goes to grocery stores with parking garages, which is why the Old St Anthony Lunds and downtown Whole Foods have been such abject failures.
Don't forget the Selby/Snelling Whole Foods, which definitely doesn't have a line out the door every day.

Re: Carbucks

Does St. Paul not have unarmed traffic control like Minneapolis does? I don't think the Minneapolis ones are even in the Police Department; traffic control is part of Regulatory Services or something. Why would St. Paul send an off-duty sworn officer, rather than a traffic control agent? Why would ...

There is absolutely old-style white flight continuing to happen throughout the Twin Cities metro. It's not as explicit as it used to be, but it happens all the time.

Any parliamentary procedure experts know who has the authority to bring a motion to reconsider? The prevailing side, or the losing side? The person who made the motion? To my understanding this shouldn't be a problem from a parliamentary procedure standpoint. Only the prevailing side can make a mot...

Ramsey County's Riversedge proposal has four towers on a cap over railroad and Shepard Rd. It's not impossible, but it is very expensive.

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

Note this from slide 17: "To fit the LRT guideway, sidewalks, and two travel lanes about 75 feet of right of way is needed. When additional right of way is available other elements can be included: boulevards, bikeways or street parking." I assume that is pretty bare-minimum sidewalks. Note too that...

Literally no one enjoys or defends that endorsement process, yet it endures...and it's really hard to understand why.
Plenty of people enjoy it. It's an interesting game for a day.
