Re: 307 Oak Grove Apartment Proposal

Originally they said construction would start in Summer 2021. Now second half 2022.

Re: LPM Apartments - (376' - 36 Stories)

For my own preferences, I don't "get" Loring Park. Other than being close to downtown and there aren't many/any lower priced apartments within downtown itself, Loring Park doesn't seem to have a lot going for it. I suppose if you work downtown, but spend a lot of time in Whittier/Uptown, ...

Re: LPM Apartments - (376' - 36 Stories)

No one wants to complain about the stupidly ugly lobby, the part that those of in the neighborhood have to actually look at constantly? (it is mainly a blank white wall a few feet away from the glass, with a very cramped and boring part where the residents enter.) Or how about the incredibly unevoc...

Re: LPM Apartments - (376' - 36 Stories)

They are an order of magnitude better than Vikings people.
Perhaps but Vikings are, what, 6 days per year in the winter? Vs Twins takeover North Loop practically every temperate day of the year. Granted they no doubt are a prime reason for the restaurant boom there though, so it's a trade off.

Re: LPM Apartments - (376' - 36 Stories)

I'm actually amazed at how safe the neighborhood is, considering that living in Warehouse District there was a shooting within a block of my apartment monthly and sometimes weekly. It was always at 2-3 am when the clubs get out, and I assume by people who had a "beef", so I didn't really f...

Re: Grocery Stores

Living downtown, I frequently fill up a foldable cart with groceries and other goods via skyway. Usually supplemented with a car trip to a bigger box store every month or so for bigger bulk stuff. I live in a 650sqft 1-bedroom apartment with no additional freezer space or anything like that. This i...

Re: Grocery Stores

Response to: https://forum.streets.mn/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=22&start=1300#p63212 we have a small SuperValu which we can incorporate into our evening walks. Even in the winter it's relaxing to walk to there and get $25 worth of groceries as part of our evening routine. Where is this SuperValu...

Re: LPM Apartments - (376' - 36 Stories)

Or even that giant vacant lot at Nicollet and 18th. Nicollet/Franklin wouldn't be much more convenient for someone on Clifton or Oak Grove than the Lund's. Oh, I disagree. Going from Oak Grove down Blaisdell to Nicollet/Franklin is way easier/faster/nicer than to Lunds, feels like 5 small blocks vs...

Re: LPM Apartments - (376' - 36 Stories)

A closer grocery store would also be really great. Is the Lunds really that far away? It's on the edge of the neighborhood, but it's still technically in Loring Park, no? Well the LP neighborhood plan ( http://www.loringpark.org/MPfinal/Builtform%20DistrictsOCT2013.pdf ) breaks the neighborhood int...

Re: LPM Apartments - (376' - 36 Stories)

What I can offer is anecdotal perspective. As a 27-year old yuppie who could easily afford a place like this, I can say I wouldn't want to; with the sole reason being the neighborhood. Additionally, no one I know wants to live in Loring Park or even considers it when discussing their next places to...

Re: Downtown Retail News

I am just curious about this push for a Trader Joe's? I have been there and I would ask anyone who likes this store, once you have been there why would you ever go back? It's better quality than Rainbow and cheaper than Lunds, to generalize. Obviously depends on what you typically buy Cheaper than ...

Re: LPM Apartments - (376' - 36 Stories)

If I'm going to be honest those prices are 80% of the cost of equivalent apartments in NYC. Come on now!!! Manhattan avg. rental $/sqft: $4.275 Brooklyn avg. rental $/sqft: $3.838 LPM Apartments rental $/sqft: $2.39 (source: http://www.elliman.com/pdf/e2bc1133fc28fbf55d79ff6e97ab6f5e8962622b) So, a...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Urban Planning

I'm not sure what this debate is about anymore. Make Minneapolis a great place to live, it will probably never be a hot destination for travelers nor young people who just want to move somewhere "cool." It's the Midwest! It has a nice combination of what makes the West coast cool and what ...

Thanks, I was wondering about that. Sad, that was a great restaurant space, with a patio full of bunnies. Now, dark basement apartments.

Kim Bartmann has applied to the HPC to replace windows at 1612 Harmon, the former home of Nick & Eddie's/ Cafe Maude2. She had her wedding reception in that space last summer. I guess she liked it!
And, denied.

Re: Manhattanization

Miami has more very tall buildings perhaps, but outside of the downtown coastline it is flat as a pancake. I will take Minneapolis's sustained medium density neighborhoods over that any day. Not to mention, so much of the housing there is empty most of the year, just a way for global wealthy to clai...

Re: LPM Apartments - (376' - 36 Stories)

Taken today: Awesome shots. We may have been there at the same time. (That is, I'm glad none of these pictures show me coming out of Rainbow Road.) LOL too funny. Also drove by today and noticed the big blank wall in back. I didn't pay enough attention to the renderings to see that, guess it's just...

Re: LPM Apartments - (376' - 36 Stories)

The Trader Joe's between Uptown/St. Louis Park has such a cramped and small parking lot, I somehow doubt they are such sticklers for parking. Also, Lasalle is a rather big street. Driving by recently I agree that probably the space is just too small for TJs, but I will stay dreaming. My reason for o...

Re: Downtown Restaurant News

Not sure if this belongs in the (now moribund) Soo Line Building thread, but Brasserie Zentral will begin taking reservations later this month, April 21 according to Facebook: http://zentral-mpls.com/ https://www.facebook.com/zentral.mpls
