I want to know what the mysterious building is that's located across the light-rail station where the current medical examiner building is.

Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Air Rights Development

If the Met were still around today in the condition it was in before they wrecked it, I'm sure it would be under every kind of historic protection available. This is the exact corner it sat on, for those curious: https://maps.google.com/?ll=44.979635,-93.266309&spn=0.000624,0.000807&t=h&...

Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Air Rights Development

The two areas you mention have practically nothing in common. It was otherwise hard to understand your point exactly? They both have professional football stadiums? Actually, the Westgate also has a professional hockey stadium which also hosts major concerts and an fairly large outlet mall. You als...

Re: Nicollet Mall Project

As I understand it, there will be no curbs, but the paving will change when transitioning to the driving lanes to meet ADA.
That's what I'd expect. You still have to have visual or physical cues which designate vehicle and pedestrian areas.

Re: Hiawatha/Lake Mpls Public Schools site

It's about time they got their act together and proposed something for this site again. If they can pull this off, but will make a huge impact on the surrounding community. More retail on Lake street is a great thing, but the farmer's market is sure to liven things up quite a bit during the day time.

Re: Nicollet Mall Project

Why can't we have a curbless road? I've seen it done countless times without any issues. You don't been curbs for drainage or to keep pedestrians out of the way of traffic. Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Air Rights Development

I would imagine WF would also want to use some hotel rooms for business travelers to their offices. I'm not sure how many rooms they'd need, but Ameriprise wanted to buy all of the Ivy hotel rooms for that purpose. Did they want to buy the rooms, or the unsold condos? I cannot remember how that all...

Re: The Eclipse

I was trying to highlight the fact that the parking restrictions are meant to encourage public transit in and out of downtown. The fact that the city has no issues with public parking spaces seems counter intuitive. The reason Minneapolis is as successful as it is now is because there is abundant pa...

Re: Velo Apartments - (103 Second Street North)

I love how this side of town has been completely transformed with just two projects. Now we just need someone to come up with an incredible proposal for the half block of surface parking on Hennepin between 1st and 2nd.

Re: Nicollet Mall Project

From what I saw at the presentation, no curbs to speak of. There WILL be busses.
That is great news. It will give the mall a much more fluid feel and give priority to pedestrians

Re: The Eclipse

I know why the city wants parking stall limitations on projects, but it's funny how they would have no issue with the spaces if they were intended for public use - something which would actually encourage more cars downtown than if they were used by owners of the building. A public parking space is ...

Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Air Rights Development

Developer are not going to propose a larger hotel just because Minneapolis might be chosen for the Super Bowl a few years down the road. hotels are very expensive to operate (I was in the industry for more than half a decade) and there's not a huge up side even when business is good. The hotel marke...

The official outline of downtown East can be seen on Google Maps. Technically the only surface lots remaining are those scattered along Washington Ave - roughly three full city blocks. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Downtown+East/@44.9748063,-93.2567059,1521m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x52b32d66928...

Re: Downtown Hotel News

I think the market is ripe for one or two new 200-300 room hotel in downtown. Occupancy rates are extremely high, especially since there are more hotels rooms downtown now than there were last time the market was this good. If the hotel proposal next to the stadium isn't approved, there may be enoug...

I believe the town home portion of the project in the presentation document listed a Q2 2014 construction start time. granted, that document is nearly a year old now, so things might be a bit off on timing.

Re: Snelling and University

if they model this area after the West End, the one thing I'd want them to change is making sure that every building has more than one use. We should not have single story buildings with retail. We need retail on the streets with 4-6 floors of residential or office space on top. What I'd like to see...

Re: The Eclipse

Is there any possibility that the ratio has anything to do with the viability of this project. In other words, is Stanton thinking that this much parking revenue is needed as part of the funding source to pay down debt? I'm more inclined to think that he believes it will be a selling point versus a...

Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Air Rights Development

Combining the two would simply give us another Center Village. No matter what development option is chosen, the best we can hope for is an "OK" integration into the neighborhood. from what I've been able to gather, the developer will have to retrofit their project on a pre-defined parking ...
