Re: Currie Park Lofts Phase I

I don't understand why this building is so important. We have dozens of two story buildings identical to this throughout the metro which are all run down and forgotten.

Re: Upper Post at Fort Snelling

It's about time. I remember visiting a few of the buildings back in my urban exploration days (nearly a decade ago). Most of the buildings we explored back in 2004 were in very poor condition. A few had very bad roofing issues and some even had collapsed floors on the inside due to extensive water d...

Re: Third North - (800 Third Street North)

It's not massive, but it's certainly a lot longer than all the other newer projects in the vicinity. The area is big enough to house the 720, 730 and the Herschel Lofts.

Re: Totino's Apartments

Wow, was that so hard? Why is it that an unassuming project like this can imagine retail space while high-profile project in areas with a lot more foot traffic simply can't fit it a shop or two into the first floor of their buildings? This isn't a great design, but I'd take fifty more of these build...

Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)

I know there are a lot of sarcastic comments on this page, but lets not forget that aesthetics mean absolutely nothing. It's all about that the building offers and how it incorporates into the neighborhood. If 222 is able to get people out and create a more vibrant neighborhood, it will be a success...

Re: Sears

While it'll be nice to see that Sears wants to redevelop this area, I think the project is a bit short sighted. The Sears site has huge potential to become a commercial destination with a high-end residential component. If done right, they could have a 2-3 condo or residential towers along Rice Stre...

Lets not forget that the majority of the parking there is used by people who work in the nearby governed buildings.

Re: City Walk Uptown - (1312 West Lake Street)

This area is going to be completely different in the next few months. I think it's funny how there was no development around here for years and now it's completely different every time I drive through the neighborhood.

Re: Loring Park Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)

I know this is a bit late, but I thought I'd bring up the school conversation again. I'm sure a lot of you read the DT Journal's piece a few weeks ago on the issue of school options in downtown. There really aren't any. It's one of the reasons my wife and I chose not to buy a condo since we'd have t...

Re: Speed Building

I think people are missing the point here. This company has found a way to build tall buildings in a matter of days with a steel structure that's extremely light weight and strong. If a building can go up 3-5 time faster, the developer stands to save a significant amount of money. But keep in mind t...

Pre-fab skyscrapers

This is simply amazing. A Chinese company wants to built the worlds tallest skyscraper in only 90 days!

Check out how they built a 30 story pre-fad skyscraper in 15 days.

Re: Nic on Fifth - (455 Nicollet Mall)

Should this building be considered a skyscraper? Not in my book. Could this building be built taller? Absolutely, but I'm much more concerned about filling a slot on a prominent downtown intersection than I am worried about the height of the building. Adding a few more floors only add an extra 50 or...

Re: Mill City Quarter - (300 South 2nd Street)

I'm actually a bit impressed. The building in the design looks deceptively large because it's a 3D model on a cropped 2D landscape. The building will only be as long as the first portion of the Depot hotel on 2nd street and the glass retail on street level will be great for the neighborhood. I'm als...

I've never been a huge fan of the design, but I see this building as a stepping stone to really get this intersection and surrounding blocks fully developed.

Re: Nicollet Residences - (455 Nicollet Mall)

While I'm a huge supporter of having retail options available on both street and skyway levels, I don't think there will be a huge demand at this location since it's on the far edge of the mall. That being said, I think this would be a perfect spot for a street level restaurant or bar with outdoor s...

Re: Downtown Hotel News

PS, on an unrelated note...the go date for the Ivy to become The Conrad is supposedly November 15 now. Is this going to be a legit 5 star hotel? Doubtful. Having worked at the Grand Hotel for 5 years, getting/keeping a 4 star rating is extremely hard. To my knowledge, the Ivy is currently the only ...

Re: Loring Park Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)

Wow, just read through the past 10 pages of posts. Man, that was a waste of time. Having lived in urban areas all my life, I know there are a lot of people who never like it when a project they don't approve of gets the green light. There are many reasons for this and we can't expect to understand e...

disappointed that I have not been biking to work lately. I used to pass by twice a day. It's refreshing to see them using real brick rather than pre-fad slabs. This side of the river is going to be hopping with a lot of activity over the next few years. I can't wait to see what the final neighborhoo...

Re: The 155 - (155 University Avenue Southeast)

Excited to see a new development for this area. The design isn't the best, but it's a million times better than the surface parking lot it is replacing. If i could change one thing, I'd add a few small retails store fronts on the University side so that the building can pull some pedestrian traffic ...

I hope this finally happens. having lived in Italy for most of my life, I miss pedestrian streets or even pedestrian zones in cities. The grid system in Minneapolis isn't ideal, but it can be done.
