Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan
Although, I'm for density I think the city needs to resolve their issues with keeping rental units habitable. There currently is a crisis with the Kahn and Frenz properties, the city and it's oversight have failed the tenants of these properties. Even after properties have gone to the administrator...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
I'm pretty sure the removal primarily benefited taxis and delivery trucks. I know that this comment was made in snark, but the layout makes it very difficult for residents on Blaisdell to get the services that other people take for granted, unless the service providers are abusing the bike lane. As...

Living on Blaisdell, I'm pretty sure the removal primarily benefited taxis and delivery trucks. I also enjoyed the added protection, never saw drainage problems, and shoveled a path through the berm for my own use and the use of my guests.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market
Metro office vacancies update. Mostly what we already knew. Downtown Class A office space is still doing pretty well, especially in the best buildings. Class B vacancies are through the roof. And the West End submarket is still red hot. So, considering a ~20% vacancy rate in class B space and a ~2%...

The housing demolition that allowed the interstate highways into the urban core did far more to reduce population than lower demand... What's your best estimate of the portion of that 28% decline in population that was due to interstate demolition? I got here shortly afterward, so I don't know how ...

Isn't that what Hennepin does?
Looking at this photo makes me wish that Minneapolis had diagonal street going from Calhoun to the Mississippi NW of Downtown. It's not technically that far, but so much in the way.

Re: Future cars / Driverless cars
Where are they thinking it would run? Blocking the bike/walking path? I doubt it would handle the terrain challenges if it wasn't on the existing path. If it isn't blocking the path, the other half of the greenway is separated by a fence and "not accessible". Also, a lot of that article ta...

Re: Woman's Club of Minneapolis Parking Lot (344-410 Oak Grove)
I've thought about this before, but a long staircase in perpetual shadow in a winter climate probably falls into the category of attractive nuisance. They could do what the parks department does and just block it off for the winter. This would be private infrastructure, so there should be no rules ...

Considering lot ownership and neighborhood needs, this "monumental building" would almost certainly be a new cub foods. And from a distance, it would look a lot like this. https://www.google.com/maps/@44.9480541,-93.2779105,3a,75y,358.33h,93.39t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sDwMdhaWADJsqSo64gvXarw!2...

Re: Google Maps
I'm not sure when it actually happened, but Google's 3D map has now been updated.
CORRECTION: The new imagery now shows the new stadium, but still seems to be fairly out of date. The Kraus-Anderson block shows the old building and associated parking lots.

Re: Gaviidae Common / Downtown YMCA
Think of it as a parking spot for your workout clothes. Charging the people who want/use that parking spot reduces costs for the people who don't. More efficient than providing free clothes parking for everyone.$25/ mo for a locker is a bit off-putting.

Re: The Commons - Downtown East Park
Previous statements from Wells Fargo essentially said the new parking ramp (which they didn't have to pay for) was probably the main factor in choosing the location. That also happened "because of the stadium" but could have happened at any time if the city had political will to build it.

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project
I agree that it would be faster and more direct, but adding the 60 feet of ROW in the middle (based on the room needed for the 46th st station) would mean tearing down lots of buildings. At least with the new freeway braid arrangement the northbound part into downtown and the southbound section out ...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project
Yeah, an infill station at 38th, and ideally another infill station somewhere north of Lake St., like Franklin, would go a long way toward convincing me this is an actual Metro service that's serving the community it runs through. I agree that we want a transit route to serve the community it runs ...

Re: Nicollet Ave / Eat Street - Whittier, Stevens, Loring Park
I always thought the lot at 2644 Nicollet belonged to Christo's. Also, It amazes me that this lot has remained vacant so long. The large Black Forest lot with neighboring lot makes sense to me also, but I would prefer something with access from a different street instead of only Nicollet. It makes i...

Re: Twin Cities Future Transit Map
One of the ideas I've been kicking around in my head for awhile is an express LRT line between the DT's. Umm, you know the Green Line was originally planned to be this, but the neighborhoods didn't want something else to divide communities like 94, and the Met Council wanted development, so a 94 ro...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
I think the main problem with this discussion is that you are all confusing "technical criteria" with "political decision making". I also wish that the two were more unified, but that is clearly not now the case.
