Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2022
Its the other way around in my opinion. How many people voted for Walz in 2018 but ended up voting for trump in 2020. Walz won by over 11% in 2018 vs biden who won it by 7%. Still a large margin but one that is not nearly as strong and was very much powered by the metro area. If even some of the su...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
In Riverview's case I assume all the platforms will be level-boarding, and I hope they're long enough to allow at least 2-car trains. It would be optimal if the stations were built to allow platform extensions for 3-car trains at a later date, but as long as 2-car trains are feasible I'll be okay w...

I don't get over to that neighborhood often, but I remember going to the restaurant across the street and thinking "God, what an ugly building".

Re: Maintaining old houses
I replaced the 115 year old windows in my home with inserts about 6 years ago. No more storms. Most of the windows didn't have storms when I bough the house, so new windows without storms was a HUGE upgrade over old windows with a mix of storms or winter plastic. I have never missed the old storms. ...

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath
The councils plan is a vision with zero details. Going to be a no vote from me as I don’t vote for a nice vision of the future at the city level I vote for results and details. We need real change in the MSPD not what they just passed. Also yes I call the cops if something happens. Not sure why any...

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath
All the people on social media spouting off about how they hate the police- If a home invader is kicking down their door, I wonder who they're going to call? Pizza Hut delivery? Well if you call the cops, they probably won't stop the burglary. They've certainly never been helpful whenever I've been...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image
Kind of curiously, the Longfellow Market never boarded up its giant plate glass windows yet didn't appear to have any damage. You'd think somebody out to indiscriminately destroy stuff would have put a hammer through those. It was reported that Longfellow Market had volunteer workers and others out...

Re: Allianz Field and Snelling-Midway Development
The scale and mix of uses is just fine for this site, but it's overparked as per usual in St. Paul. If I had more confidence that this proposed parking would be shared and used to support less parking at other locations on the superblock, I'd feel better about it. I assume that almost every develop...

"Open" should be open to people. Cars are not necessary or required."Open" means open to cars. Doesn't need to be a freeway, but there should be an allowance for autos, else why are we spending tax dollars on it.

If we do want to advocate, is there anyone aside from our city councilperson that we should contact? This is all very new, and I doubt they have a designated contact for any potential project, but I could be wrong.

Re: Thrivent Headquarters Block - 6th St and Portland Ave
Not necessarily though - if you look at the plans, they actually show an alternative 10-story option that just has a slimmer massing above the 2nd floor (that could be a good thing). So 10 stories instead of 8, but a very similar number of units, possibly even fewer. Comp Plan goal met? Height and ...

Burger King should absolutely be denied. It has been closed for 18 months. As the rules state, this should not be allowed to open as a Burger King again. Zoning Board of Adjustment denied the request. It was a unanimous vote. I think they have 10 days to appeal ... Burger King restaurants will reop...

The MPHA is proposing a really exciting project at 1600 Penn Ave N. It's a site that (via Streetview) has been vacant since at least 2007, and sits about a quarter mile from C Line stops on Golden Valley and Plymouth. The proposed building will be an energy efficient triplex, with excellent insulat...

To be fair, a lot of breweries in Minneapolis are also in random spots without commercial neighbors or great walkability. Also to be fair, most of the breweries in Minneapolis are in older industrial areas with re-used buildings. Those that are purpose built, or in newer buildings are almost all ve...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
People talk about the "mistakes" of the Green Line as if they were inevitable and in the past, but it is true today that the Green Line has not been given signal priority entirely along its route. The majority of the issues with street running would be avoided if there was a willingness to have the...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
My take is more that the CC got uniquely screwed up than that there's a systemic suburban speed bias. If you look at the non-downtown portions of the Blue Line, its pretty similar to SWLRT, except for the godforsaken tail south of the airport. Grade separated for major (>15,000AADT) crossings, full...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
It's striking how much more willing they are to build expensive bridges to grade separate this line out in wealthy suburbia than they were to do the same for the two dense lines running in the core. Imagine how much cleaner the Snelling / University intersection would be if they'd built a tunnel or...
