Re: North Loop Neighborhood
The close proximity to the Royalston or Target Field stations is interesting to think about (two block walks?) but crossing Olson or 7th is an unpleasant experience. It’s also going to have close freeway access for drivers, and frankly that matters to many people still. No one should need to take a...

Re: Xcel Energy Center
I don't know how they'd fit a stadium behind Target Center, frankly. This might be the Royalston Station spot you mention, but there's a big parking lot behind Target Field (and adjacent to Royalston Avenue on one side) that I believe is the location I've heard speculation about. That's the target ...

Re: Fare-Free Transit
I think the counter argument is that highway users do pay fees in the form of fuel taxes. They (actually we) also pay for cars and trucks to access the facility. Cars aren't free and neither is operating them. We just aren't paying for direct access. Free transit also wouldn't be free, it would just...

Re: HERC - Hennepin Energy Recovery Center
People come from other cities to see the Twins play and ask quite logical questions about what goes on in that big industrial facility, and it's a bit embarrassing to admit that it's a garbage burner. It doesn't fit with the image of Minneapolis as an environmental leader. You can always tell them ...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
Considering the current road arrangement in the neighborhood, removing cars from 10th WOULD notably change the ability of people in cars to navigate the area. As we have discussed here before, a NETWORK is important to allow movement, even for cars. If 10th were closed, all of the cross streets woul...

Re: Housing Market/Economics - General Topics
Do you want to buy a house in this market? If yes, keep in mind there's five people behind you that aren't going to demand a home inspection, either house flippers with cash or people that are apparently more desperate to buy a house than you are. You are undoubtedly correct, but I will continue to...

OMF + CHS Field is to Lowertown what the 4th Ave Parking Ramp Wall is to Downtown East or ABC ramp wall is to the Royalston area. I understand what you're going for, but I disagree. If you go past the "4th Ave Parking Ramp Wall", you are still in the downtown loop with continuous building...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
RCUT intersections seem to be more popular with engineers and bean counters than the people that actually have to drive them, and the area residents previously got a state law passed to prohibit MnDOT from building an RCUT at 23 and 9. In this case, when you say "engineers and bean counters&qu...

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail
Was the study to Savage passed? I don't recall the entirety of Dakota County being against Dan Patch, just Lakeville, even though a station in their downtown could bring a big boost of visitors without more car traffic. The study bill hasn't passed yet. And according to Rep Jess Hansen, Burnsville ...

Re: Minneapolis Street Design
I drove down Blaisdell last week and I think it would actually be better with the parking switched to the other side. Not only would the parked cars provide protection for the bike lane but the parking lane becomes the driving lane at some intersections so why not keep the driving lane on the left ...

Re: Freight Rail News and Happenings
I think Buffet and Berkshire Hathaway don't really care about passenger service and are completely fine with BNSF only investing in freight operations (iirc most of their investments have been centered around intermodal improvements) unlike Fortress and Wes Edens who let's be honest only created br...

Either that or signal error. They will check for that and release a report. What do we think here? Seems like clear LRV operator error given the westbound train was already stopped.

Re: MN House drafting bill to ban corporate buying of SFH for rental
Also, the apartment that I rented in Dinkytown was owned by a business that managed dozens of properties (most of which were SFHs and all were in Dinkytown). They were very good to work with and charged a fair rate for their housing. They would almost certainly be impacted by this as well. This is ...

Can we just fill in the tunnel and do it at grade Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I wonder if an at-grade LRT track AND an underground bike trail would have been a cheaper option from the start? Just imagine, a somewhat-heated winter tunnel to warm up in during a long bike commute during the col...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis LRT Tunnel Discussion
I've gotta imagine that, without cross streets and parking garage entrances, a Marquette tunnel would be able to handle all the Nicollet Mall local buses and Marq2 expresses (however many that ends up being in the flexible-work/suburban LRT world). Nicollet might be even better, but, y'know, rather...

Re: Transit Crime
Drug use and fare evasion are completely separate and largely independent problems. Also turnstyles only work if there is someone there to stop people from evading them. If we had staffing available to sit at every train stop and arrest people hopping fences, then we could just put them on trains to...
