Re: Suburban World Theater rehab - 3022 Hennepin Ave S
Reminds me a bit of the Oriental Theater in Milwaukee. I saw There Will Be Blood there on film and there's just something amazing about seeing a movie or a show in a place with that kind of character.

Re: Hennepin Avenue (Franklin to 36th)
I'm afraid the fantasy is sitting around wishing on a star that EVs will save us. The real fantasy is that transit will save us, given the political climate. There would have to be an order of magnitude larger investment in transit infrastructure to really make a large dent in the number of persona...

Re: Hennepin Avenue (Franklin to 36th)
A plan that doesn't make any accommodations for left turn lanes is absurd and should be discarded immediately. In other hot take opinions that will be unpopular here, there's not room for bike lanes on Hennepin. There are other viable locations for the bike lanes, but there are no other viable rout...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
The bigger issue at Snelling Station today is the limited platform capacity, which is not designed to handle stadium event crowds in any way, shape or form. It's not, at all, but by the end of last season I felt like they had finally figured it out pretty well. Loading the trains was going way smoo...

I've been all-in on Linode for years, but you don't get cpanel or anything with them it's just a bare VPS.

Re: Future of the forum
Yikes. I can see why you're not a fan.Yes, cPanel has it and many cPanel hosts have that turned on, but Site5 deliberately does not for their shared hosting. I prefer Let's Encrypt (both because of the $0 price and the superior validation setup)

Re: Future of the forum
Site5 -- which wouldn't be my choice, but it is a nightmare to move a big phpBB install, so delaying that. Looks like you can enable AutoSSL in cPanel to get free SSL certs using Let's Encrypt: https://community.letsencrypt.org/t/installing-letsencrypt-certificates-on-site5-hosting-using-cpanel/30659

Re: St. Louis Park - General Topics
I use that MicroCenter all the time and I'm in Stevens Square, but taking transit there would be ridiculous. It's an hour one-way at a minimum, 40 minutes of which is walking. What about my relatives in Edina (I know, lol)? It's either a 50 minute walk one-way, or a 1h 20m transit ride one-way (incl...

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath
Given the police's behavior captured not only on livestreams but also by the news media on live TV, I absolutely think ignoring calls to make a point is plausible.

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
You can't just wave your hands and change how our cities have been built for the last 200 years. Using a bicycle as primary transportation in the suburbs isn't feasible. It could have been were our cities built around that idea, but they weren't. It would probably make sense to start taxing resident...

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath
I was watching the livestreams a lot during Wed/Thu/Fri and Lake was basically given to the arsonists. There was literally zero police or guard presence. It could have been a tactical choice, they could have been deployed elsewhere, or they may have realized they didn't have enough people and decide...

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath
Not totally excusing Frey for later in the week, but he did call for the Guard Wednesday around 5-7pm-ish according to reporting at the time and later on. I think what happened is that no one anticipated (obviously wrongly looking back, but even maybe at the time) that it would get that bad on Thurs...

I swear I saw this for the left turn signal from Washington Ave W turning to 3rd Ave S.MnDOT is discussing the idea of using flashing yellow arrows on all new signals regardless of if there's turn lanes, some outlaying districts are doing this.

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
I think a lot of the confusion—at least around the lakes—comes from some of this happening during and right after snow melt. Tons of peds were walking in the bike path because the ped path was still covered in snow/ice/puddles, so before and then during street closures the cyclists moved to the stre...

This seems to be how South Korea really beat it, I think screening is going to be a big way that we start to reopen. They will be screening all workers starting Monday, also. They were not doing that up until now.
