Re: Metropolitan Council

Man could you imagine a more cohesive super region. more equal transportation network, more spread out response to low income housing. Maybe even being able to equitably spread out school funding across the entire region. Obviously bigger isn't always better for bureaucracies but it could be cool I...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

Looks like the windows on the reopened Zelo space are frosted (or whatever) for the bottom two-thirds or so. Can’t see in or out when walking on the street.
I wish there was a city ordinance that prohibited this.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

Was sad to see Greek Grill & Cafe in the skyway at Northstar Center is now closed. Where can I get my gyro fix downtown now??
I hope they re-open somewhere else, they were my favorite gyro place downtown. Seems like all tenants were kicked out of Northstar for the renovations.

Re: Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) Clinic Expansion

The hospital may need parking, but they certainly do not need it in the configuration of a full-block parking ramp on a prime downtown site. They can store their ambulances anywhere. The site bounded by Chicago... I agree 100% with everything you stated, but I think this is one of those site that w...

Re: Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) Clinic Expansion

As much as I would like to see something more active than a parking ramp, I don't really see many alternatives for this site. As much as we want less parking downtown, the hospital needs parking, they need a place to store their ambulances, and a skyway connection to the burn victims housing is very...

Re: Minneapolis Skyway System

Could go in another thread I imagine, but the skyway association seemed the biggest news. Hennepin Healthcare will be expending their parking ramp with new underground ambulance space. But the expansion will link to the skyway network connecting to the new Thrivent HQ. https://www.bizjournals.com/t...

Re: Phoenix

It's interesting to hear positive takes on Phoenix here. I'm not among the hardline urbanists on this forum, but I found Phoenix to be the definition of a car sewer and a city lacking of culture. Everywhere you look it's a six-lane road and a chain store. Most of the recommendations are outside of ...

Lost Dutchman State Park is pretty cool. There is a ghost town recreation really close to there also.

If you have time, Tucson has a lot of great hiking, such as Sugrao National Park, Mt. Lemon and Sabino Canyon.

Does anyone know the average occupancy of each unit? I am thinking it's around 1.5 or maybe a little higher. That would mean about 5000 additional residents in the next 2 years.

Is there data on where the downtown population works?
I live downtown and thinking about my neighbors, only about 1/3 of them work downtown.

The rest either worked from home (pre-pandemic), outside of downtown or retired.

It appears that construction from now on up will be wood construction? I thought buildings over a certain height (5 stories?) had to be concrete. Is it allowed that the top stories are allowed to be wood even if the overall project exceeds that height? I am not an expert on building codes, but you ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis - News & General Topics

I am downtown everyday and last week there was a significant increase in foot traffic. Most restaurants that are open have decent lines over the lunch hour. I have also seen some of the skyway restaurants starting to extend their hours. Your observations make me wonder...are those who like to be do...
