Re: Type II LRVs - Siemens S70
Connecting 'transit' LRT tracks (or any other tracks under FTA blessing) to 'railroad' mainline tracks (FRA jurisdiction) opens up a whole different can of worms. Simply put, they can't be physically connected to mainline tracks, unless everything you do/have is FRA-compliant, or have some sort of m...

Re: Type II LRVs - Siemens S70
You're thinking "tram-train" type of service, right? The short answer is, "no", S70 can't enter mainline tracks under FRA jurisdiction regardless of types of trains that are mainly occupied by such tracks. There are some cases where you can establish an exception to this by ensur...

Re: Federal Reserve Riverfront Parking Ramp
The fact that North Loop is only served by two local "coverage" routes, 7 and 14, makes it quite interesting to navigate to-and-from North Loop by transit. (e.g. Should I wait for the 14, or walk two blocks to catch the 7?) On a sidenote, the lack of "direct" connection between M...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
On a tangentially related note, I wonder if the parking lot on the SE side of 5+Hennepin is less likely to get developed due to the mural. I imagine it being a good location to be a public plaza with food trucks and programming or some sorts, at least. I'm also hoping the upcoming Hennepin Downtown ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
I don't know---I can understand that sentiment actually. Waiting for the bus at 5+Hennepin, I didn't really feel like I was in the "heart" of downtown (or at least right next to, supposedly). The light rail station is literally surrounded by Sneaky Pete/Dreamgirls and two parking lots to t...

I was hoping to see a technocrat-kinda figurehead like Peter McLaughlin, but oh well, Slawik seems pretty qualified compared to other finalists.

Re: 501 7th St S
From the PDR Comprehensive Report...
Sometimes, the City doesn't even know how to interpret their own addressing standard. It should be 7th Street South.- The address for the proposed restaurant space will be 505 S 7th Street.
- The address for the residential entrance will be 511 S 7th Street.

Re: E Line ABRT
That's true. That being said, *if the stars align*, and when we have both SWLRT and Midtown Greenway Rail converging at the station, I believe it makes more sense to have both B and E lines serve the station. I guess, eventually, it all comes down to cost-and-benefit balance for serving SWLRT-origin...

Re: E Line ABRT
My speculation is also on the France-Excelsior-Lake routing. With the E Line serving France with a high-frequency service, #6 can be truncated to become a "shuttle" btwn Uptown TC and Southdale via Xerxes. (maybe extend to downtown during peak hours, depending on service hour availability)...

Starting October 13, several stops will be eliminated to speed up route #2. Glad to see some 1/4mi stop spacing in action. We should do this system-wide.

I'm personally happy to see bigger out-of-town players like AECOM bringing in some competitions to the Twin Cities development market. I'm loving these quality proposals and renderings.

Re: Gold Line BRT (Gateway Corridor)
There is an on-going MnDOT study on I-94 between downtowns. Even if they can secure the funding in the next cycle or so, I would guess it would take a while for engineering/construction to see HOV/HOT lanes on I-94. They also probably want to wait until the current I-35W construction is done before ...

Re: Mortenson / USBank site - 333 Hennepin Ave E (290' - 26 stories)
I think you might be right! That will also explain why the alphabet streets west of Lyndale (e.g. Aldrich-Bryant-Colfax...) has "S" attached to them too.

Re: Mortenson / USBank site - 333 Hennepin Ave E (290' - 26 stories)
I suspect that there is a discrepancy between public works dept's signage-making practices and the city's addressing standard. The city already has Minneapolis Addressing Standard v1.22 that says all directional markers should be used as suffixes. Also, I don't understand why named streets in "...

Re: Nicollet Mall
I completely agree. Not just Nicollet, but I think the impact of us not being able to effectively activate street-level retail storefronts goes far beyond just that one corridor. I know we're only doing a so-so job at revitalizing Nicollet Mall, but walking on any East-West streets in downtown (e.g....

I stayed at the new MSP InterContinental hotel couple nights ago as my flight out of MSP was 6 in the morning, and I really did not want to wake up at 3am to drive to the airport. Overall, it was a good stay, but there are some catches I didn't expect when I booked. It is really hard to get to the h...

Re: Mall of America Transit Station: Master Plan
If we were going to staff one transit center, and one transit center only, I would think the busiest transit hub in the state probably deserves a staffed customer center.
