Anoka State Hospital - Anoka
Reading over the latest city council minutes from Anoka, three of these buildings are being proposed for demolition. These buildings were designed by Cass Gilbert, and now most sit vacant. Two were combined with an addition and is the Anoka County Workhouse, a couple are administrative buildings, an...

Re: Block E
James Lileks says he'd hate to work at Block E (though I think everyone here assumes the structure would be re-cladded and get other updates if the Strib or others moved in). http://lileks.com/bleats/archive/13/0313/032813.html I don't blame him for hating it, but then again, he hates a lot of buil...

North Loop Salvation Army
Mod note: Jump ahead for October 2014 update: https://forum.streets.mn/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1263&start=20#p70961 I didn't really know which forum to post this in, but I think it fits here. Bizjournal is reporting that the salvation army is planning on vacating it's large facility in the Nor...

Re: Vikings Stadium
Jfuss, how did you get hold of this? Probably from here: http://publicradio1.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/stadium-watch/ And it looks like it's just part of the original collection of photos of that design. They also have the following additional images which I think we've all seen before: http://public...

I have no idea when these were made, but I happened across them at: http://damonfarber.com/projects/parks-open-space Sorry for links, images are too big to use the image tag. http://damonfarber.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/gateway-park-1.jpg http://damonfarber.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/gatewa...

Re: Vikings Stadium
Great news on the stadium, I have a friend who is married to a mort project manager; this will be nothing like Lucas, nothing! :D Thanks Nasa. That is great news! It's a hint it could be something very contemporary and bold. :) Ha, ha....that I don't know. She stated that her husband said they were...

Re: Vikings Stadium
No, that stadium is a dump. It already has a very dated feeling to it, I don't like it at all.The parking lots surrounding Miller Park suck but the building itself is great!

Re: Downtown Office Market
Actually, it would be great if TCF just rehabbed their current site ( interior and exterior) to give it a nicer, more contemporary look and better relationship with The Foshay. The atrium inside the complex has potential to be a much more interesting space, and I even think the tower part was built...

Re: Northstar
I would love to see some conveniently placed signs promoting the Northstar. Not talking a billboard, but instead estimated travel times. For example, on many of our highways and interstates we have big electronic signs that display estimated travel times to certain major places down road. I would li...

Re: New Theme!
Need the breadcrumb links restored at the top left of the thread. For example, the top left now just links to itself with "New Theme!". Before there would be three links: "Updates -> Announcements - Problems - Suggestions -> New Theme!" It was very handy to have those links there...

Re: Green Line (Central)
I believe Downtown's have a sophisticated strata of tunnels; heat, electric, H20, sanitation, storm- perhaps even old delivery tunnels and deep product cellars. I think this would add lots and lots an lots to complexity/cost if it were even possible without going very deep. Under tall buildings the...

Re: Downtown Office Market
On the first page there were people wondering about the "LED" wall, or something of that manner for FSN North. I think that is now in place, and is essentially a floor to ceiling tv on the skyway level. I have a picture I can post later tonight.

Re: Downtown Post Office
Interesting, I had no idea all the buildings that guy and his company designed. The late World Trade Center towers being one of them. This article I just stumbled across kind of paints a poor picture of him: http://e-five.hubpages.com/hub/Architect-of-Disaster-Minoru-Yamasaki I count three buildings...

Re: Downtown Post Office
I think it's a shame they filled in the park that used to be right in front of it: http://www.lileks.com/mpls/post/postpark.jpg I very much dislike the 60/70's development in that area.. The ramp, and the three apartment buildings are a complete misuse of that area. The "City Beautiful" pl...

It's too bad they ripped out the classy 2nd and 3rd floor bank lobby during the many renovations of the building:

Re: Loring Park Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
I don't know much about engineering either, but I've been watching large buildings being built in Chicago for awhile now, so maybe I can make some sense of it. We're used to watching smaller low-midrise buildings being built, where they just drive sheet piles down below the level of the basements s...
