There was a sign on northbound Chicago around 42nd saying "Chicago Ave closed at 34th starting April 5 (or whatever)." Which is funny because it's been closed at 28th for about a year.
yes work started this past monday

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
Hiawatha Golf Master Plan should have passed tonight, as the vote was 4-2 in favor (French and Severson opposed), with 2 abstentions (Vetaw and Bourn) and one absent (Hassan). However, one of the friendly amendments (by Vetaw) earlier in the discussion was to rename the clubhouse (after Solomon Hug...

Re: Hiawatha-Lake - Minnehaha - Downtown Longfellow
Was it ever an option to try to change the zoning (or whatever) to try to encourage more mixed use in the rebuilding here? Specifically the giant parking lot just north of Lake that had a Wendy’s and AutoZone. That space is begging for something bigger, and if so there would almost be a little urba...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
Agreed. I live about equidistant between the Mall of America, Southdale, Burnsville Center, and Eden Prairie Center. It's been at least five years since I've been to any of them. Most people in the suburbs shop for their daily needs and wants somewhere else. They could all completely disappear (Som...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
It's certainly bad all over, but the impacts are far more noticeable downtown (as in impactful on the quality of life). Basically the draw of downtown is the things that have been crushed as a result of the pandemic (walkable vibrancy). The 'draw' of Eden Prairie doesn't change all that much even i...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
Unless you change the road or have far greater speed enforcement changing the "legal speed" doesnt do anything to change someone's driving. The limit is 45 mph around downtown st paul but how many people slow down to even close to that if there isnt traffic. Not that I do it very often, but I don't...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
That is true but the reason people treat it as a suggestion is due to our enforcement practices and the culture of lowering it we'll below safe design speeds. If we're serious about speed enforcement we need speed cameras. I'm not personally a fan of them but that's the solution. Keeping a speed li...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market
I mean, maybe. But wouldn't the offsetting argument be that since offices just aren't as important, you'd get as cheap an office as possible? I think if the office isn't particularly to impress employees or visitors (which there will be less of), it's mostly a place to collaborate. And like you say...

Re: Old Thrivent HQ - Sora Apartments & Parking Ramp
Seems like a good time to have a private entrance so you can avoid shared spaces...Sora Apartments fully wrapped up. I can't imagine walk-up units along 5th Ave are leasing well, but who knows.

Interesting that they are rebuilding (I assume) the Holiday at 46th and Hiawatha to be oriented toward the sidewalk.

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
I don't know that water storage capacity is really the issue here, since there's an easy path down the creek for water to get to the Mississippi -- I just think the elevation of the golf course is too low relative to Lake Hiawatha. As I understand it, they're proposing to raise the elevation of the...

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
As a golfer, the preference is always to play 18 holes. Having 18 holes also allows more people to be on the course. We have a great park system in this city, not only because of the land that was fortunately set aside, but also because of the variety of uses. The pumping of water is what is brough...

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
Is there a racial aspect to this issue? Is the course heavily used by people of color? I've seen lots of Save the Hiawatha Course signs near the golf course itself, but given the neighborhood, my assumption would be that these would be nearly all white households. Part of the argument has always be...

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath
The facts in Floyd don't really support a third degree murder charge so a second degree murder conviction could be the result of a jury trial- jurors won't have the option of splitting the difference like you would with a plea. Chauvin's actions were directed at one specific, identified person, whe...

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath
I can his logic but at the same time no trial is a sure thing. Even a 3rd degree plea would have been huge and I just dont trust Barr. Just seems like it could have really lowered the temp in the room for the whole country. I had not thought of that, maybe he is looking at his options and thinks th...

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath
Honestly unsure about Barr's judgment here. A third degree plea and more than ten years in jail would have been an objectively good result (and honestly, still is), as it is very hard to convict cops, but I don't think he's wrong to worry that it would seem like too little and too fast to some peopl...

Its a hospital........do you think there are a lot of people (besides maybe workers) that are biking to the hospital? I have biked to that hospital (including on a NiceRide) more than once. Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
Also - even though I shopped at the Target liquor store on Nicollet, I was never a fan of it opening, considering the number of homeless people and those who obviously had drinking problems whom were already loitering in the area. Bad part on the city for allowing it to open. I thought that per the...
