Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Huge difference between lots of single track, and one point. And if they were willing to consider the radical railroad operation idea of ... checks notes ... signaling and switches they could double track it on the surface, and do the co-location idea. We are, after all, talking about at most a few...

Re: Renaissance Square / The Andrus

The now demolished Walgreen's on east lake st was a good example of chain store actually embracing storefront windows. There were no shelves against them and you could actually see products and customers inside. Turned out to be good for ingress and egress, as I observed the day before it burned...

Re: 17 North Washington - CA - 27 stories - ~300'(?)

Without arguing one way or another re: this building, I really want to push back on the idea that the Gateway District doesn't deserve preservation because the buildings don't suit contemporary tastes. That is exactly the justification people used 60 years ago to demolish the original Gateway Distr...

Conservatism, even fiscal conservatism doesn't mean don't spend government money on anything more any more than liberalism equals the government takes control of everything in full blown socialism / communism. I can't go out and buy streets, roads, and freeways, so it's the role of the government t...

Re: Interstate 94

Well said. My issue isnt with having it be a long term goal its that proposing it right out of the gate would gain almost no political traction. You need to do smaller projects that build towards that until one day people look around and see that its no longer needed/gone in its current state. Inve...

Re: 4601 Minnehaha Ave S

Empty retail/street level means fewer eyes on the street and more crime/vandalism. Relative to what? A lightly used gas station, some empty lots and a few houses? I'm trying to understand what is good about this level of density who's benefitting from it? People who want places to live? Hiawatha (u...

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors

Looking at this purely via self interest, if they are going to make the 14 every ten minutes, that would help offset my disappointment that the Cedar line won't get this far south. Outside of pure self interest, it should still connect to the new development at the 4700 block of Cedar and once it do...

Re: D Line - Chicago-Fremont/Emerson Rapid Bus

Yeah, I don't think it's correct that there is a question of "if" it gets built or that building it will wait for a future phase (not sure what that means), just that they will build it outside of main construction and after decisions have been made about what the intersection is going to look like....

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map

Seems to make sense. The outflow of young couples starting families and wanting private yards and private bedrooms for their kids rather than a condo or loft downtown is still going on. But the influx of young singles just graduating from college or moving out of their parents house and replacing t...

It's been reported quite a few police officers have left the force or there is a lack of applications for new officers. Can you blame them? Again - not saying there aren't bad cops out there or that reform isn't needed with the police department, but there are good cops out there too. Yes, I can bl...

Re: Nicollet Mall

There are a large number of cops on leave right now which is an issue. Which is why the city had to call in extra help from the burbs and park police. I think that's a sign of being overwhelmed given the number of active officers . I do agree that the reconstruction of Hennepin ave has moved alot o...

I believe that the numbers do not truly reflect the amount of crime that is going on out there. Even within my neighborhood there are many instances where people who are victims of crime are not calling the police because they know that they will not get a response or they feel like it's a waste of...

Re: Nicollet Mall

The idea we can abolish or reduce the size of the police department is insane. So is the idea that policing doesn't need reform. There are too many bad people, and too many bad cops. Something like a licensure board requirement for police, increased education requirements and an increased salary se...
