Believing the tightly controlled part, i.e., trusting the government, seems to be the problem.

Are we arguing that there's enough population living downtown to sustain a shopping mall now, or that if you just build a shopping mall suburbanites will swoon over and flock to it. Or that people living in say Armitage will go downtown instead of Southdale?

I'll defer to others if we're arguing ...

I know that some places allow it, but that doesn't mean that everywhere needs to. I won't try to change your mind, but what's the public good in allowing these signs?

A lot of politics comes down to how you feel about other people. Are other people competition for scarce resources who may be out to get you? Or are they neighbors who are part of community?
