Local governments should understand that they literally have no power that wasn't granted to them by the state.

Re: City Center

I'm on the Minneapolis Police crime stats page right now and negligent homicides are up 10% over last year and approaching the 3 year average. That said, homicide is relatively uncommon and can be a noisy statistic. So let's look at what's considered a 'better' metric of overall crime levels ...

Re: City Center

I live downtown and this perspective is always confusing to me.

Yes, there are a couple spots on Nicollet where people hang out, but I've never once seen or heard of this "loitering" causing anyone any harm, nor do I know anyone who lives downtown who thinks Nicollet is some kind of hellish "no ...

Hard to justify spending any money at all on roadway that should be removed though.

Believing the tightly controlled part, i.e., trusting the government, seems to be the problem.

Re: City Center

Are we arguing that there's enough population living downtown to sustain a shopping mall now, or that if you just build a shopping mall suburbanites will swoon over and flock to it. Or that people living in say Armitage will go downtown instead of Southdale?

I'll defer to others if we're arguing ...

I know that some places allow it, but that doesn't mean that everywhere needs to. I won't try to change your mind, but what's the public good in allowing these signs?

Call me crazy but I tend to think the burden falls on the side that wants to prohibit things.

My guess is the insider is former CM Goodman.

"How new ownership would go about funding the stadium remains unclear, but without a doubt, Lore and A-Rod would want public funding for this project. The problem with doing that in Minneapolis, according to Shama’s reporting, is the Minneapolis City ...

lol.

Good to see they are going with the best of the proposed layouts. As an anti car head I don't mind the street being open to car traffic. I think in this city car traffic is a reality, and the focus should not be on car-free zones rather on calming the fuck out of traffic and replacing ...

Have to agree MOA appears to be doing just fine. The place is absolutely packed on weekend nights and there's very few vacancies.

While I think it's doing fine, aren't two of the former anchors spots still mostly empty? And there are a lot of what look like pretty low revenue generating ...

A lot of politics comes down to how you feel about other people. Are other people competition for scarce resources who may be out to get you? Or are they neighbors who are part of community?
