Re: Minneapolis City Council and Park Board Elections 2017
There's definitely a particular Progressive doctrine that seems to be coalescing, and it's apparently all about purity tests as opposed to critical thinking. Why have "Fight For 15" when you could have "Think Critically For Who Knows Maybe Like 12 At Some Point In The Future Whenever...

Re: A Line - Arterial Rapid Bus
As someone who could actually use and benefit from the A Line north extension... yeah it'd be better off extending west from 46th Street Station. I bet the north extension (post TCAAP redevelopment) could outperform the Red Line though!

Re: Improving Metro Transit's urban bus service
I've only ridden the 83 once, but I agree that it's a nice connection, especially since a lot of the NS routes in that part of Saint Paul don't make it all the way to West 7th (A, 87, 63). I agree that Rosedale connection would help a lot. Another quirk is the jaunt onto 35E between Randolph and W 7...

Re: Improving Metro Transit's urban bus service
The Better Bus Stops project has a survey out about how & where to improve bus stops (shelters, lights, signs, etc.). I took the open comment box at the end as an opportunity to call for bus stop consolidation, which isn't really in scope, but hey, why not. http://www.metrotransit.org/Data/Sites...

Re: Minneapolis Mayoral / City Council Elections 2017
DFLers are going to rally around the mayor and city council to keep Minneapolis a sanctuary city. I don't follow. Is the idea that maintaining sanctuary city status between now and '17 will earn Hodges enough goodwill to carry her through the election? I would think NLP would be the best choice for...

Re: Minneapolis City Politics General Discussion
Ehh, I'm saying that I think some paranoia on Cano's part is justified because she's backed into a corner. Like, sure, I probably wouldn't come to the defense of some feisty right-winger in a similar position, but I'm not claiming to be unbiased. However, I think the important distinction here betwe...

Re: Minneapolis City Politics General Discussion
Given what we know about both of them pointing the finger at Cano first seems entirely appropriate. You can point the finger at whomever you want, but I'd like to point out that one of these is a dynastic power broker with a largely affluent white constituency and the other a political newcomer wit...

Re: Minneapolis City Politics General Discussion
So, stepping back for a moment here, of all the ways Cano's original tweets were inappropriate, why is the "using public resources for political purposes" the specific ethics complaint? Why is it inappropriate to publicly disagree with or even rebuke citizens who contact her on political i...

Re: Counties Transit Improvement Board (CTIB)
Yeah, without emphasizing walkable stations as a goal, I'm worried that we'll end up with a whole network of Red Lines.

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
I'm kinda skeptical that a Maplewood Mall terminus would still give this line the political support it would need to get built. However, White Bear Lake's current transit service is so abysmal that maybe they could be brought in with new bus service connecting downtown WBL to the mall. Downtown WBL ...

Re: A Line - Arterial Rapid Bus
That was something I had suggested in at least one public meeting, but I'm not sure anyone took me seriously. I suppose one issue is that the bridge for Snelling over Como is relatively narrow. Still, I figure access could be done acceptably with stairs and zig-zag ramps, but if it was considered a...

Re: Minnesota Transportation Funding (General)
I don't think Minnesota's districts are particularly gerrymandered. The problem is that Democrats really are much more concentrated in urban districts, some of which are 70% or more Dem voters. Does it matter that Minnesota districts weren't intentionally gerrymandered, if the end result (Dems high...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
6) Northstar line should be added into the system map as well. Please no. Unless it's like a little transfer icon or something. There are so many bus routes more useful and user-friendly than the five-trips-per-day Northstar. And I hate that when it is on maps as a line, it creates the impression t...

Re: C Line - Arterial Rapid Bus & Penn Ave Community Works Project
Whoa, so to recap. Bendy blue buses for C line, bendy yellow buses for Orange line, regular blue buses for A line, and regular yellow buses for Red line. Plus the Red and Orange business will be labeled called T METRO. and A & C Lines will have the Metro Transit logo. Anybody else find it a tou...

Re: City living apps
Try deleting and reinstalling Transit if the lines don't show. The transit layer didn't show up at all until the other day when I emailed them about it. Should show Blue, Green, A Line, and Northstar. Thanks for the tip. Glad to see that at least the A Line made their map. Agree with jebr that incl...

Re: City living apps
Unless I am missing some key setting or something, the "mapping" part of their app doesn't seem to work for the Twin Cities yet, save for half of the Green Line. I think if they really want to make a splash, they need to tackle bus route mapping. Maybe have the high-frequency network as a ...

There's one called Nimbler, but it's only available in a handful of cities. I've never used it so I can't vouch for whether it's any good.

Re: Google Maps
Interesting article about Apple's progress with transit maps and directions. I wonder when we'll see them include the Twin Cities. Tying back into the earlier discussion, transit directions is one of the reasons why I have been sticking with Google Maps. http://appleinsider.com/articles/16/07/07/why...

Re: "A Line" Snelling Avenue Arterial Bus
I witnessed a passenger in a wheelchair board the bus yesterday on my first A Line ride. It was the same process and time delay, though at least all the equipment was working smoothly. Hopefully in the future Metro Transit will adopt the same passive restraint system that Seattle uses on its rapid b...
