Re: Downtown Minneapolis - News & General Topics

I think convention business will rebound fully. People want that connection that you can't get via Zoom, and its an opportunity to visit another city as well as be with others in your industry/affinity group. The Hilton is a convention hotel, the largest in the cities... and close to the convention ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map

Not sure residential is a great re-use. The building's lower floors don't have much exterior window space. I worked in the "East" portion many years ago when it was the Pillsbury Building. It's a good class B space, I'd hate to see it go. But demand for office space will be declining now s...

Re: Lake and Fremont - 15 stories

They likely believe the neighborhood would want them to scale down no matter what they proposed, so they are starting with 15 in hopes of getting 11-12. If they started with 12 the neighborhood would want them to scale to 8-10

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

Does anyone else think the days of office construction are over for awhile? Everything I've read about office workers is that many employees will continue to work from home. Less costly to the employer and the employee saves time and money by working from home. Its not for everyone, I personally pre...

Here's hoping that the current downturn in the stock market does not last or many of those deposits/PAs will go away.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

There is no question that there is more going on in DT Mpls, but DT St. Paul has a lot to offer. Some of my favorite restaurants are in DT St. Paul:Meritage, St. Paul Grill and Pazzaluna. I understand there are some great spots in Lowertown as well. I would also argue that Rice Park is easily the be...

I thought this building was going to include micro apartments starting at less than $1,000/month? These rents are the same or more as any other new downtown building.

Meanwhile, people who live and work downtown tend to like them for their convenience and climate control, and property owners want them because people like them.
I think that sums it up well.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

I don't see a huge increase in office space demand unless the trend of suburban firms moving downtown increases. Its a shame United Health did not build a major tower downtown for executives, marketing, finance, etc. and keep "back office" space in Eden Prairie.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

Many companies (my own included) have moved to a flex system as well. Unless you are in the office 18+ days per month, you do NOT get an assigned cube/office and must reserve a cube/office every time you go in. Many more people are working from home 3, 4, or 5 days per week. This has resulted in a ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

I understand from friends and former co-workers (now at Optum) that many of their employees would rather be downtown. They could keep a lot of "back-office" space in EP while moving corporate, marketing, finance, real estate, etc. downtown. We can dream.

I learned this used to not have those massive columns just a few weeks ago. Used to be a classic downtown store front with A LOT of doors. Here's a Lileks piece on it: http://www.lileks.com/mpls/andrus/2.html Apparently it's being reverted back to something similar. Lets hope that's brick and it ge...

Looks like they may be considering a senior cooperative at this site, by an affiliate of Ecumen. Likely high-end share prices.

If Macy's downtown closes it will be a sad day indeed. So many memories... my first 3-piece corduroy suite for $60 from Dayton's bargain basement... my first credit card, when I was still a U of M student, worked in Men's Casual Sportswear part time for 2+ years in the 80s... maybe another dept. sto...

Yes, but my estimated do not include the need from the two new Ryan office buildings. And in any case, the addition is not enough to replace 1,300 lost spaces.

Re: City of Minneapolis Offices Consolidation

I'm not saying there is a shortage of parking NOW or that new development will cause a parking shortage, I am commenting only on the removal of 1,300 spaces as a result of the City tearing down the ramp to consolidate office space. Regarding the new spaces added to downtown, these are to serve the d...

Re: City of Minneapolis Offices Consolidation

Downtown has lost 000s of parking spaces due to development of light rail and loss of vacant surface lots - which is a very good thing. We want to see vacant lots developed into vibrant spaces for residents, workers, etc. But I am concerned that loss of 1,300 spaces will put a great deal of pressure...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map

I hope the city nixes the giant "Y" signage. And I'm still unclear why they felt the need to move. Their current space is not THAT old and in a good location. Good luck finding a user for it.
