Re: Transportation Funding (General)
Another example was Chris Coleman's shortlived proposal for a 'nickel a beer' sales tax to fund the Vikings stadium. But 'per dollar' is implied unless otherwise specified. I thought it was only 2 cents a beer. Although I personally had a "great" idea about a nickel a beer tax... but this...

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
As good a time as any to repost this : https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3951/15564615639_b9e3368fd0_z_d.jpg Though it would be a very tight curve at the 4th/Broadway intersection, I believe it is possible for a through-running LRT line to continue down 4th St and avoid the OMF facility. That is along...

Re: Grocery Stores
I've been waiting for HyVee to enter this market since I moved to the U from Rochester in '98. Of course, I worked for them after they bought out Barlow's I'd like to see them redevelop the former Rainbow / Home Depot strip in Cottage Grove. As far as Inver Grove, they're more likely to aim for the ...

Re: Grocery Stores
For the record, the WSP Rainbow on Robert closed earlier this summer. I can't see a new grocery store going in there either - Jerry's also owns the Cub 1 mile away, and it is flanked on Robert by a Super Target and a Walmart

Re: 1400 Park Avenue
The shingles themselves don't look that old (architectural style) so the roof shouldn't be leaking. As long as the foundation and walls are sound, the rafters could always be rebuilt. Almost all buildings are technically salvageable. The hard part is whether or not it's financially viable to fix the...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project
It's probably a conspiracy to prevent the future freeway cap we'll want from 24th to 26thI've wondered the same thing... we're already significantly redoing the braid and the entire freeway at this spot. Might as well depress it so we can get a normal bridge at 24th Street.

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project
So, to steer this marginally back on topic, if not at Franklin Ave, what other infill stations would be viable and useful along this line? I know they plan to make 66th an online station whenever that bridge is rebuilt, but how realistic would it be to have a station paralleling each of the ones al...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project
This sounds SHOCKING until you realize that there is and will be a bike bridge at 24th Is there a plan to replace the steps on the east side of this bridge with a ramp? The new bridge will have both ramps and stairs, from what I recall. Why can't they just sink 35W down a little further and run the...

Re: Zip Rail to Rochester
It's probably because they don't see what's in it for "them"
If it's just a fast train between two endpoints, then it doesn't do any good to the small towns it blows past. All the more reason for planning a local sub-service

Re: Road Geek Topics
MN 121 definitely needs to be turned back. At most, the southern block or two could be an unmarked ramp segment. An even better subject for that question is MN-121.But for now I'm probably just going to ask MNDOT what the point of a 2 mile long MN-110 is.

Re: Road Geek Topics
Felt this thread was the most appropriate. Maybe the way we merge is wrong by putting entire onus on the merger, and a better way would be to make the drivers in the highway lane being merged into take a far more active role in opening a space. http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/features/a2615...

Re: Downtown East (Ryan Companies / Wells Fargo / Radisson R
I believe what the other poster was referring to is...there seems to be a ramp leading down to under the WF building on the Radisson Red site plans...which I would imagine is parking...unless some kind of loading dock. That is what I referred to. Also, if you read the descriptions, they are providi...

Do the Vikings get to rename the station? The Twins got Target Field Station (the original one) in return for promoting transit and whatnot (maybe some money too, I don't remember) Anything like that happening with the Vikings?

Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minnesota
I meant OVER the freeway. I realize it's expensive, but how much more? What is the price difference between building a parking ramp on flat ground vs spanning a freeway? If it's only 10-20%, it might be worth it. If it's double the price, not so much. I was spitballing ideas to help stitch the neigh...

Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minnesota
At the very least, I hope they incorporate the lot east of the bus barn lot into the stadium planning. I'd rather see any stadium half way between Snelling and Pascal rather than pushed to the far corner of the overall site. That would also allow more productive uses along the Snelling frontage. Rel...
