Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minnesota
Port Authority buys Midway Center and the bus barn site. Sells stadium and ramp site to city. City sets up sweetheart land lease with MN United. United builds stadium. United also builds district parking ramp with money they had budgeted to purchase farmers market site land (30 million I believe) Po...

Re: Road Geek Topics
Re-route MN 13 east over Yankee Doodle Rd and current MN 55 to US 52 - rebuild the intersections at each end to make the route a continuous road. Turn back MN 13 and MN 55 north of Yankee Doodle. Former MN 55 segments from Yankee Doodle to MN 110 become minor collectors (This would likely require a...

Re: Road Geek Topics
I'd go even further - turn back Hiawatha Ave to the city, and route MN 55 via 62 to 35W to 94. It was already routed onto 94 between Hiawatha and Olson a few years back (it used to cross downtown on city streets). I'd go even further: Since it is planned to route MN 55 from US 52 to a dogleg via Da...

Re: Road Geek Topics
I've been thinking that for years.
I'd even go further - extend US 212 over MN 62 and MN 110 all the way to 494. The stump of MN 62 would be an unmarked state highway - signed as County 62

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
I agree that the line must serve the core of DT St Paul, and froggies' map and twincitizen's explanation of the compromises involved are appropriate. Would it make sense to have a station between Davern and Montreal? There's lots of low-density superblock-style stuff there, but also a decent number...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
I had thought of taking 5th St to Smith, Smith to Kellogg, then angling across the Hospital's parking lot to Thompson. Follow the east side of 35E to roughly Western, then due south to the Ford Spur. In the end though, it seemed like a LOT of weaving to avoid the direct, obvious path - West 7th itse...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
The good news is Thune isn't running for re-election (finally), so that should take care of itself.
Maybe the best course is to wait a few more years so everyone can see University Ave LRT wasn't the "end of the world" and realize LRT actually benefited the neighborhood as a whole

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
It depends on if you see this line as a commuter line (fast travel) or an actual transit line.
I prefer splitting off the green line at Cedar and taking 5th to 7th, then 7th at least to Randolph (actually Toronto...) Leave the train deck for heavy trains

Once again - screw the maintenance guy! Nothing in this building will ever break! We don't need to build a shop or even a storage room. A janitor closet - or even better - the frickin' TRASH ROOM will be good enough

Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minnesota
United in St Paul would also give each city an arena, a baseball stadium, and a "rectangular field" stadium
Not that sports facility equity is a rational need, but spreading out facilities would help on those days of multiple events

If you are truly concerned about parking, the Sears site seems better. There are plenty of existing ramps at the Capitol complex

Re: Downtown East Project (Ryan Companies / Wells Fargo)
How did I miss that there's going to be retail in that building fronting the park? That makes me hate it a whole lot less. That's why I've never figured out the desire to put a restaurant IN the park itself - it seems like the first floor of this building should work. I can't tell, but is there ret...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project
HotC is up on a ridge from 13, so it could be possible to keep Nicollet at that elevation over 13 - you might have to depress 13 a little bit. The only real impacts would be the Holiday driveway and the bus exit directly off of Nicollet. Perhaps an offset single point to make the interchange a littl...

Re: Red Line (Cedar Avenue BRT)
Seems odd that they're gonna convert Cedar Grove to a median station and build a median (online) station at Palomino, but Cliff Rd is planned as a highway shoulder (inline) station. That's a lot of weaving - seems like all the freeway portion stations should be the same
