Re: 2015 Transportation Funding Proposals
That's good, but even keeping things the same is effectively a cut since more and more people are using service that remains at the same level of funding and continues to degrade in quality. It's not like it magically gets cheaper to carry more and more people who are riding transit. Maybe they don...

Re: 2015 Transportation Funding Proposals
This. Cutting transit funding is basically a nonstarter. We'll probably get at least a 1/4 cent raise in the sales tax. The legislators I've spoken to have all been pretty confident about it.there will be no cuts to state's portion of Metro Transit funding.

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
And here is why the state is screwed when people like this are in power. http://theuptake.org/2015/04/21/convenient-prison-to-north-minneapolis-connection-draws-boos-for-rep-newberger Well, that was quite the slip. "North Minneapolis" just happened to come to mind after "Prison".

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image
The number one reason for abolishing slavery wasn't for the sake of black people, but because it destroyed white society. [img][snip] There was certainly idealism involved, particularly for Lincoln himself, but both the north and south were still incredibly racist. You can't sell the abolition of s...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image
I would say that it is an entirely different issue. That "double-edged sword" would imply that those factors were zero-sum in nature, as though whites have benefited at the expense of blacks (lol charged language). Whether it be for everyone, or for whites in particular, a double-edged fac...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image
@kirby96 There's nothing to indicate that it's not great for everyone, though. There could simply be additional, negative, factors that have influenced our african american community. Said community potentially could have been worse-off than it is currently is if it wasn't for those policies. An &qu...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image
That's just left wing SJW ideologues for you. Part of the push back is them looking at racial statistics in an overly simplistic way. Part is also the Right wing as mentioned before. Additionally, Some people take it upon themselves to take Minneapolis down a notch because of how it makes their citi...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image
But is there any city that has inspired SO MANY take down analyses? Surely there's been a "Seattle is a gem" article that glosses over some of the city's issues and then gets (perhaps somewhat inappropriately) ripped to shreds by folks who really, really need to have their say on everythi...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image
Best part of the article: We don’t know if Minnesotan migrants are sending money home, or in what quantities. We know that international migrants do this. So really, it’s a question of plausibility . So, as long as it's plausible, then it must be true (/sarcasm). The article is half misleading stati...

Minneapolitans are just jealous b/c of the Interchange's severe capacity constraints; they'll have to make an additional transfer when traveling

Ayy, I'll clarify, since that was ambiguous.
I like to cycle as much as I like to drive: not at all.

I was going to list every reason why that brown line wouldn't work then I remembered what thread this is, lol ... Great work on it though! Some fun ideas. Thanks! While that is true, not being easily butt-rustled, I welcome criticism/suggestions. That is how ideas are best improved, so feel free to...

Re: World's Fair 2023
I'd like to know where they plan on putting this event? There are quite a few places we could host it. As far as the public knows, it hasn't been decided yet. I haven't seen much discussion about this, nor have I seen an analysis of potential locations anywhere, so I'll do a bit to fill that gap~ S...

Re: 2015 Transportation Funding Proposals
Germany also has a population density to support that. Most of the US doesn't. By comparison, Germany's population density (583/sq mi) is almost 9 times that of Minnesota (67/sq mi). There are only 5 states that equal or exceed Germany's density: NJ, RI, MA, CT, and MD. Now, that said, the 7-county...

Re: 2015 Transportation Funding Proposals
The MN House has a slim majority that will more than likely switch back to DFL in the 2016 election. I disagree. What happened in 2014, while partially due to low turnout, could be viewed as further shifting of the state's political makeup. The 1st & 2nd ring suburbs are now solidly DFL and out...

This was initially 2 separate maps, for the Riverview and Rush corridors, but since I couldn't help but continue adding to this, It's become more of a pantasy map, so I'll drop it here. https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zSJnxXbOTTGo.k1HQwbeccJkw I like this Rush line better than the first fant...
