Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2022
I feel like Walz is going to have a tough time. The republican base in greater Minnesota is losing its mind about masks and "rioters". The urban-rural divide might get real bad for the DFL. Look at Bakk and whoever else breaking off in the Iron range. It's gotta be our priority to grow and densify t...

Re: Tunnels!
At one point I did some back-of-the-napkin math using examples of projects here and around the country, and at-grade LRT averaged $100M/mile, elevated LRT averaged $200M/mile, and Cut & Cover tunneled LRT averaged $300M/mile. (total costs also including all the contingencies and soft costs). Its not...

I thought I remembered hearing that they weren't extending it to the Amtrak station like they should, though I could be wrong and maybe constituents have convinced the powers that be to do the sensible thing.

The former Rainbows Foods near White Bear Ave and Hwy 36 is becoming a Hyvee. They're constructing the gas station for it, and there is a Hyvee liquor store now in the adjacent strip mall. I'm suprised Cub Foods didn't stop this, considering they have a Cub Foods right next to it and they used to ow...

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors
Are there specific congested areas or streets for Nicollet/Central with congestion that make combining them impractical, that could be solved with engineering like bus lanes/signal priority?

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
MVTA is launching a couple new local routes in Burnsville, Apple Valley, and Eagan. Route 442 is being extended to the Mall of America and will basically be a duplicate of the Red Line. The new services begin tomorrow. Seems like a very expensive way of sticking it to Metro Transit and the Met Coun...

Would anyone like to purchase a large Kmart "K" sign from the city of Minneapolis?

Where else to you suggest besides Lakeville that has room for a 750,000 square foot distribution center with associated truck parking? The former Apple store in Uptown? There have been different locations all over the place they've internally and externally talked about potentially building this wa...

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News
Uptown has the B and E lines coming along, and SWLRT nearby (via the B line). Things will be fine. The tall buildings are also good/needed. More transit and density will help retail in uptown.

Of course they would put it somewhere like Lakeville. Why not just put it in Iowa.

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors
Another thought, why did they not include the full 63 bus route here? The section that serves East Saint Paul along 3rd St has been excluded. They've done some stop consolidation that's going in effect right now, though that applies to Grand Ave, too, which they looked at for aBRT. East of Earl St, ...

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors
I'm suprised that Century (219 Bus) ranked higher than American (542 Bus). American is very stroad-y and suburban, but there is far more *stuff* along the American route than there is along Century. More density, more potential transfers, more destinations. Unless Century College and the demographic...

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors
I'm pretty sure the 54 bus/W 7th aBRT corridor is going to stay, and it's not because Riverview is canceled. Towards the end of the Riverview alternatives analysis process, they had basically settled on needing 2 transit services in the corridor. One direct connection between downtown and the airpor...

Re: Hillcrest golf course redevelopment site
Industrial jobs being built in exurban areas with no transit is a problem of sprawl. That isn't solved by bringing suburban sprawl into the central cities. That is solved by densifying currently developed areas and investing in our transit network. This redevelopment offers a great opportunity to do...

Re: Hillcrest golf course redevelopment site
Yes, putting industry next to a neighborhood that has suffered from racially driven divestment is an example of systemic racism. A refinery has decent paying jobs, but that doesn't mean we should put one here. Blue collar jobs always get zoned into poor and POC neighborhoods. If they are quality blu...

Re: Hillcrest golf course redevelopment site
I hate all 4 of these concepts for Hillcrest. They should not be putting all this "light industrial" here, and I really wish the port authority would stop trying to turn every development into industry. Or at least all the development in East Saint Paul, which is disproportionately poor, immigrant, ...

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors
From back in 2018 when they extended the 54 Bus, in the brief presentation available online about it, they mentioned improved "10 minute peak" service on W 7th. How frequent was the peak/off peak service for the 54 on W 7th before that? In theory, that 3 year CMAQ funding will be running out in less...

Re: Public Street Blocked by Residents
It sounds like we could use more police officers that can behave themselves without adult supervision.Single cop patrols were tried for a while and it was discovered that they behave even crazier when they're alone, so they went back to the buddy system.
