Re: Ideas / Wish List for Mpls in 2021

Im in the minority but if it can get right of way which I think if parking was removed on Nicollet is doable I want the line. I like the street car from downtown to uptown or even the greenway street car idea. Its not cost efficient I know. I concur. We've set such a terrible precident in this regi...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2022

It's something I am concerned about, especially if the Dems don't take the Senate and we get a red wave backlash election following two years of gridlock. But Trump also has a not-zero amount of followers who came out to vote for him and sat out 2018. Without him on the top of the ticket, would ther...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2022

I've got to say too, that North and South Dakota have almost double the rate of COVID deaths as Minnesota, and they had the advantage of getting hit way later. If Minnesota had the same rate of death as North Dakota, 4,318 more people would've died by now. I'd like to think Walz can run on that. An...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

I'm also taking on the heating/cooling, electricity, and internet costs that would have been a cost of business in an office.

I agree, that's something that needs to be resolved in a new hybrid office/remote working world.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

Even as someone who loves working from home due to my role inherently needing more space and quiet than employers tend to assume, it's clear I'm in the minority and it would be silly to think that this is going to be maintained long term.

Glad they mortgaged MOA to pay for that boondoggle...

Though maybe they'll stop wasting their time on trying to develop American Dream Miami.

Re: Suburbs - General Topics

Will Target be footing the bill for a stop on the Blue Line Extension? Will the companies in Minnetonka be footing the bill for the Opus and City West stations? Would be nice if they did but I highly doubt it. Target definitely should be. Though I would say there is a significant difference between...

Re: Suburbs - General Topics

If Amazon is willing to foot the bill to have the rail stop at their doorstep, that'd be cool since they can afford it. Otherwise I think we'd be better off investing our transit dollars elsewhere.

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News

Uptown isn't as much of a destination anymore, and that's fine. So long as the property owners shift their focus from catering to people seeking a destination retail experience to one that caters to the residents of the surrounding neighborhoods. In this scenario, a new 15 story apartment building i...

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News

It's a bad trend for luxury retail in Uptown. It could be the start of a trend towards more neighborhood and community focused retail if the people who own the properties don't get caught up in chasing luxury leases or chains that have no logical reason to be in this neighborhood.

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

Imagine if we refused to build international airports because the futurists of the 50s had convinced everyone that there was no need, because flying cars were just around the corner. And how about that fusion reactor that's just around the corner? Or everything being made out of graphene? I'd rather...

A mural would be an improvement, but I agree that if they were to just paint it a solid color it would be worse.

Re: Future Cars: Electric and Autonomous Vehicles

The difference is capitalists never care about negative externalities that are created in the process of their profiteering. We need regulations to help fix the world from being one giant garbage dump at the convenience of Pepsico and Exxon. Using regulation in order to preserve an obsolete business...

Re: Future Cars: Electric and Autonomous Vehicles

You can purchase a car however you prefer. Doesn't mean we need to protect people who solely exist to make vehicles more expensive anymore. If they truly provide a value, let's remove their state mandated place between me and the manufacturer and see if they can prove their value without regulatory ...

Just think of what University and Snelling would look like if they'd been this willing to invest in grade separation when Dubya was president.
They were, it just had to be in service of getting suburbanites to sport games and not transit users to work.

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and Intercity Rail to Chicago

So what kind of travel times for a high speed transcontinental line can we expect vs just taking a plane? I have no illusions that taking a high-speed train from New York to LA, or even Chicago to LA, would ever be competitive with air travel. But that's not really the point. The point would be hig...

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and Intercity Rail to Chicago

I know Biden regularly used Amtrak on the Northeast Corridor, but does he have experience with Amtrak service outside of there? If his plan is taking away from long-distance service and making minor improvements to corridor routes then that's no better than the status quo. His infrastructure plan i...

If only there was someone running for president who regularly rode Amtrak and understands its value to the American people.
