It's easy to take in big profits when you're in the middle man business.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Just think of what University and Snelling would look like if they'd been this willing to invest in grade separation when Dubya was president.
They were, it just had to be in service of getting suburbanites to sport games and not transit users to work.

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and Intercity Rail to Chicago

So what kind of travel times for a high speed transcontinental line can we expect vs just taking a plane? I have no illusions that taking a high-speed train from New York to LA, or even Chicago to LA, would ever be competitive with air travel. But that's not really the point. The point would be hig...

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and Intercity Rail to Chicago

I know Biden regularly used Amtrak on the Northeast Corridor, but does he have experience with Amtrak service outside of there? If his plan is taking away from long-distance service and making minor improvements to corridor routes then that's no better than the status quo. His infrastructure plan i...

If only there was someone running for president who regularly rode Amtrak and understands its value to the American people.

It doesn't matter how much op-ed ink is spilt claiming that "The Millennials" are on the verge of abandoning cities. The financiers are the ones who continue taking the risk and putting up the money for construction, so I'm going to listen to them instead of suburban real estate boosters or develope...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

I was referring to Jacob Wetterling, broadly circling the northwest metro exurbs into one "area".

I just get tired of hearing about "crime" as if it's exclusively a city issue and that moving solves it.

Re: 2020 Presidential Election

Is there any real precedent for an active politician later being selected to the supreme court? I remember people were toying with that idea for Obama, but that was clearly more West Wing fan fiction than something that could actually happen. Taft was appointed to the Supreme Court post-presidency ...

It sounds like it's not something they push for on every property, but if the property is working well and the area conditions are right, it's something they pursue. https://www.insider-trends.com/leading-the-way-how-jll-is-helping-create-the-shopping-centres-of-the-future/ There is such a car cultu...

Re: St. Louis Park - General Topics

I'm all for transit, but you can't wish away the reality of the system we have. Too true. And while the transit discussion here is less about the current transit to the site but more the currently under construction SWLRT, ultimately Micro Center is going to do what's best for its business and cust...

Considering much of the development will be market rate, I'm sure the majority of people living in the TOD will be 'above average wealth.' The wealthy in the McMansions can go wherever they like. I feel like we've wasted enough time paving over valuable land in order to chase the fleeting attention ...

I would also argue that if the selling point of Microcenter is talking to someone knowledgeable for computer issues, I've never gotten that experience. It's been mostly 'poorly trained sales staff hurrying to stick their employee sticker on a part I researched myself before I walk out of their secti...

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath

When Bob Kroll makes threats about pulling back on enforcement whenever the elected leaders suggest the most modest of reforms, you can't ignore the possibility that using aggressive crowd control to agitate peaceful protestors and then disappearing once things started to get violent was an intentio...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

The "But China and India" response to climate action is tiresome, especially since if we invested as much into solar and wind as China has, we would largely be done with coal and well on our way to clearing gas off our grid as well, and we might have kept the manufacturing of those industries here. ...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

They have no authority to fire the instigator Bob Kroll, and it would take legislature intervention to undo the Stanek Amendment. Not to mention the time it would take to undo the damage of the amendment in the first place. The MPD seems perfectly content to let the city burn and attack peaceful pro...
