Re: Northern Lights Express
I think the biggest problem with making NLX an extension of the Borealis is they intend to run four round trips a day on NLX, versus just the once daily Borealis. Though personally I think trying to figure out how to get Empire/Borealis passengers over to TFS to connect to NLX isn't worth the effort...

Re: Future Cars: Electric and Autonomous Vehicles
I really don't think any serious prepper is driving a vehicle so dependent on the grid, let alone one that doesn't even have buttons on the console.
It seems more like the vehicle for the tech bro, "how do I take this public service and turn it into a company that pays me instead" set.

Re: Minnesota State Flag and Seal Redeisgn
Sure, and if this was the sort of thing determined by a popular vote, jockeying to get the "best of the possible" version of the seal/flag would be a bigger part of this. I'm glad it isn't, because it allows for the committee to make a decision to acknowledge that the land and people were ...

Re: Minnesota State Flag and Seal Redeisgn
Stunning (and not at all surprising) that they've managed to take the only part of this process that had built any consensus (the new seal) and turn it into an own goal. People who liked the seal before the removal of the motto and founding year but suddenly are angry about it after that happened p...

Re: Transit Crime
Whatever turnstiles would cost would fix education, food insecurity, and housing insecurity? What a ridiculous standard of success. By that metric, the cost of turnstiles isn't even worth putting in turnstiles, because they certainly won't fix the problems groups like the Strib Editorial Board are ...

Re: Transit Crime
I don't know, it's another one of those "this issue only happens in the United States" problems where other nations seemingly have solved the problem. Whether they've done that on purpose through dedicated programs, or by accident by not building society around a "if you're poor, you ...

Re: Transit Crime
better social safety net, transit not being seen as a place of last resort I wish we could have a conversation around these things instead of having to convince people who never ride transit not to spend all our transit money on useless gates and fences. A majority of the issues with Metro Transit ...

Re: Minnesota State Flag and Seal Redesign
Here are the state seal candidates. They're on the same timeline as the flags; both the current flag and current seal sunset on Jan 1st and so both need to be replaced in December or we'll be without either until a decision is made. I personally love the loon one, and dislike the seal that's a copy/...

According to Wikipedia and U of M's Minnesota Digital Library sources, the order of the major waves of immigration were - Germans (1850s-1870s) Irish (1850s onward) Scandinavians (1850s-1900s) Eastern European Jewish Communities (1880s) Central Europeans (WWI-Great Depression) Koreans (1950s-1970s) ...

Re: Minnesota State Flag and Seal Redeisgn
If that had been the intent behind a flag made 100+ years ago, I think it would be an okay suggestion. But after several waves of different immigrants building the history of Minnesota, singling out Scandinavian heritage as the one to enshrine in the flag for several generations (or ideally in perpe...

Re: Minnesota State Flag and Seal Redeisgn
In my opinion, identification should be the primary function of a flag. It should be clear and simple for the general public to see the flag and think "Minnesota". Representation is important in general but should be a secondary objective at most regarding flag design. The purpose shouldn...

not to mention 2040 is on its deathbed - Legislature intends to take up amending the environmental laws that were used in bad faith to challenge 2040 - Minneapolis now has the opportunity to provide an actual legal response/environmental review instead of the lazy one they provided to the lawsuit -...

Re: Xcel Energy Center
I think site choice and vision for the area would play a huge role in whether more public stadium investment is worthwhile. I don't know how they'd fit a stadium behind Target Center, frankly. But if they were hoping to reuse existing parking infrastructure, they could consider the block sized vacan...

I feel for the Nicollet Ave restaurants, but I'm glad it sounds like things are improving even if they aren't to the level they'd prefer. Still hoping Target holds out long enough to starve some of the skyway retail out of oxygen so they either come down to street level or give up and the retail spa...

Wasn't this something they've been planning to do for years now? They wanted to do a phase two, but couldn't remove this because their funding was contingent on maintaining the underpass as is, so they just waited out the terms of the grant.

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
I don't think it's going to be anywhere near the level of issue as it is for Brightline. The intersection at 36 is similar to many intersections the Blue Line passes through along Hiawatha. Whereas most of our systems car-versus-train collisions, to my recollection, have happened along the Green Lin...

(Granted, this is now fully off topic but...) Hasn't MNDOT done this before? Particularly, work they've done on Bottineau Blvd and reconstructing ramps near Lowry Ave without making any sort of adjustments for the Blue Line Extension project? They don't seem to be very proactive when it comes to tra...

Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
Bruce Vento made sense when the goal was fast service to downtown White Bear Lake. Once that was off the table (even beforehand, when the bus needed to take a major detour from the route to reach a major trip generator like Maplewood Mall), it makes way more sense to serve areas where there is more ...
