In this market? If older white residents leave, younger ones will be chomping at the bit to buy their houses sight unseen.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

Which is why it's good news for recovery that residential projects downtown largely have moved forward full steam ahead. It'll be easier for events and retail to come back if there's a nearby population to serve versus trying in vain to argue with the EP crowd about crime.

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar

I think it's more the 'ribbon cutting problem.' Everyone wants to go to a ribbon cutting for a new, shiny piece of infrastructure. The powers that be fund these projects so they can stand with the big scissors and be a part of the celebration. Nobody holds ribbon cuttings for routine maintenance. Th...

Re: Rochester

I also think they need better connections to the Cities since we do have a big research industry, an entertainment industry and Corporate HQ. I wonder if there would be a way to do a BRT?..or just let private companies do their thing? We could always go back to the Zip Rail plans we abandoned when ...

The MSPBJ article on the story seems to believe that they will maintain an office presence in Minneapolis.

Re: Bloomington Central Station & South Loop Development

Better than fine I think. When I imagine the average target customer of a business center hotel near the airport, I don't picture a transit user. A hotel to apartment conversion makes the American Blvd station much more valuable than it is today.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

We might as well subsidize e-bikes. We sure won't be hearing about the national debt the next time Republicans take power and dump untold trillions into another foreign quagmire so I'm not going to handcuff myself to that as an excuse to never try anything.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

For every large company that recognizes the benefits of a flexible/remote workforce, there will be 10 smaller companies that insist their culture is based around everyone being in the same place. All this does is open up available office space for some of those companies looking to take advantage of...

Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan

What type of EVs are they requiring? I don't know much about the topic but jus watched a good video about EV adaptation and one of the things they mentioned was that the chargers aren't universal? https://youtu.be/pLcqJ2DclEg The most being required is Lv2 infrastructure. There was discussion when ...

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction (Douglas to Lake St)

Those are called pedestrian scrambles or scramble intersections, and I think we should be including those in any reconstruction study of our major pedestrian oriented corridors. Kind of weird how something like that isn't being talked about despite all the supposed focus on 'all other modes but cars...

Re: Old Thrivent HQ - Sora Apartments & Parking Ramp

The best thing to do would have been to ensure that this building covered the blank wall. Since that's out of the question at this point, a mural is the next best thing. Especially given how close this is to US Bank Stadium, this is an incredible opportunity to incorporate art and culture into our s...

It shouldn't be at all surprising that Minnesota was treated by the Trump admin the same way the Ukrainian government was.

Re: B Line Lake St Rapid Bus, Midtown Rail Transit

Whenever I've gone to a business on Lake St., or visited LynLake, or gone to an event at Bryant Lake, I've never once even considered parking directly on Lake. I don't want to get rear ended by someone not paying attention. Or run over by someone not paying attention. Or have my car sideswiped by so...

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath

After Floyd's murder, calls for police reform were strong and bipartisan. After the following civil unrest, the bipartisan calls for reform were replaced with whataboutisms and bad faith arguments about property damage being a somehow equivalent horror. At a time when Barr was openly trying to push ...

I wish it was possible to write some kind of AI powered browser extension that replaces every random, dog wagging prediction from industry leaders with "made a wild guess." In October, U.S. Bancorp CEO Richard Davis made a wild guess about the rental market in Minneapolis. Business owners in Minneap...

Re: RBC Gateway (Four Seasons) - 37 stories - 519'

(I agree this is O/T at this point) Counterpoint - farmers markets are not Costcos and nobody shops at a farmers market like they do regular suburban grocery stores. Like many other city amenities, visitors are envisioned to be from the dense neighborhoods surrounding it or are visitors who will hav...
