Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT

I think the W 21st station will surprise people. Having a station that connects you right to the Chain of Lakes system of parks and trails will have benefits.

I think Town Center Station in Eden Prairie will be a disappointment unless there is some significant push to replace the auto oriented ...

"Signal priority? We call that ButterBurger priority."

Look if we can translate this into better signal priority in St. Paul then I'll take it.

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT

They're not thinking about the freeway exits either. My point was the people on this forum are thinking about things in a completely different way than the average human being deciding between two restaurants.

Yes, if those restaurants each exist in an urban and suburban location, someone might ...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT

For every loud person who publicly declares they're never going back to Minneapolis for whatever they're upset about this week, there are a dozen who don't think about the politics of city borders when deciding if they want to go to the restaurant they like in Uptown or the one they like at ...

Re: Minneapolis Public Schools

The logical progression to that thought is to say “Here’s my alternative that can be accomplished with our existing resources.”

The candidates who respond to progressive idealism by going “harumph” and crossing their arms ought to be replaced. Either by progressives, or by centrists who are ...

A good canary project would be the Utah FrontRunner 2X project. FTA’s annual report documents anticipate awarding the grant in August 2026. If that doesn’t happen, or there’s an unexplained delay, that could be a bad sign.

Re: Minneapolis Public Schools

I don’t follow MPS school board elections, but is this another case of centrist DFLers having no competing vision and just being reduced to saying “we can’t do that/we can’t afford that” as their mantra? Because that seems to be what it boils down to in most DFL primaries these days.

Dislike ...

Re: Observation Tower

Another benefit to IDS - this adds one attraction to downtown’s paltry list of attractions, as discussed elsewhere.

They open it for Doors Open every year. Yes, the few sections where you’re blocked by Wells Fargo or City Center, but overall it’s pretty good.

And on top of that, it has the added ...

Re: Observation Tower

I think the best chance is when the banks holding the debt for either City Center or IDS finally give up on waiting for a miracle and they sell for pennies on the dollar.

IDS already has it set up as vague conference rooms for tenants. You just need a place to buy $20-30 tickets, ideally with a ...

Re: Midtown Greenway Trail Extension

15 to 18 year timeline from the day CPKC abandons this right away, at that.

At this point, I'd rather we turn our attention towards building a protected bikeway on Marshall Ave from the river to Ayd Mill. With that, you'd get basically the same thing and bypass needing to deal with CPKC, which ...

There isn't hope for anything happening until the people who granted the loan realize that 601 W is not going to pay it back and behave accordingly.

Always a pleasure to see how you find a way to include some gross editorializing in a comment that didn't need it!

I've learned that a major culprit is that our financial system treats buildings more as financial products than buildings. Putting on paper that the retail leases are set at a certain ...

Re: The Dayton's Project

New construction office space is in relatively high demand. Renovated office space not so much.

As for ground floor retail, my understanding is that the lease rates are largely dictated by the loan, which is why 601 W getting their financing extended until 2029 means that this building will ...

When I went to search Novarum Development Partners yesterday, the results also brought up information about the owner's stalled Lino Lakes development (early stories about the development omitted this but the Star Tribune article included it).

I don't know. I won't hold my breath on this one.

The point is we will put up with rampant antisocial behavior on our roads because it's white collar folks doing it and demand millions for transit station cages when lower class folks do it.

I don't like some of the things I've seen on the trains, but some of the things I see daily on the freeways ...

It feels like an issue where all these problems were foreseeable, and technology existed to mitigate them, and we just decided to not do it because it might mildly inconvenience the handful of people carpooling to work.

I think this needs to come up in the public comments of every freeway expansion ...
