Re: Uptown-LynLake-Wedge - News & General Topics

Please show me where I have advocated for any of those things you list. I can see why if you thought I was going to go point by point and try to refute the things you said, you'd be confused that I was bringing up things you didn't mention. But that was not my intention, I'm just voicing my frustra...

Re: Uptown-LynLake-Wedge - News & General Topics

I mean that people I personally know cant leave there homes due to people having blockaded the streets. Not in the fox news river side way which was used to stir anti immigrant views. I will not sure that if it carries to much stigma based on how some people have used it in the past as a blanket st...

Re: Uptown-LynLake-Wedge - News & General Topics

To be honest, the whole snarky you guys are all wrong attitude plays a bit like an attempt to kill debate. To be honest, constantly having to debate about things that are subjective is a drag. Plenty of people live here and don't agree with you. Others do, some even live in the city, but far more o...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

I highly doubt Robbinsdale would want a streetcar alignment down Broadway anyway. They wanted it to sit in the rail corridor so they could have LRT without the political hassle of dealing with drivers griping about traffic, strip malls griping about construction detours, and residents griping about ...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

If I recall correctly, Robbinsdale was the angriest about that proposed freight railroad plan too and, in an ironic twist, likely played a key role in Hennepin County's choice to purchase that land out from under BNSF.

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

I went into the city council minutes for some context, here are some of their concerns with the alignment - Further discussion included: Importance of keeping the current vehicle traffic on CR81 and not diverting into neighborhoods or thru traffic using West Broadway; Keeping LRT movement synchronou...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

The mayor of Robbinsdale mentioned during the Corridor Management Committee meeting today that he doesn't think the current city council will vote to give municipal consent to the Blue Line Extension. They want to re-engage BNSF and put the alignment back in the rail corridor so the train doesn't "t...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

It might also be the fact that you're talking southern MN, which I have no experience with. Whereas I lived in the North/Central exurbs, which is much more extreme in its anti-MSP beliefs and fears. In the end, it's a problem I'd prefer to solve as opposed to ignore. But I don't know how to solve it...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

Well then there you go. Unless Minneapolis is going to start their own media company that can out compete the made up drama that gets viewers on local news, they're not going to fix that problem and shouldn't concern themselves with it. I also think it's worth noting that the idea that Minneapolis w...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

I think it's naive to assume that right wing control of media isn't the culprit here. Even when you're referencing the local channels, KSTP is right wing owned, WCCO has a direct personal connection to Bob Kroll, and CW is a Sinclair operated station. And that's just the TC area broadcasters, I know...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

The people who have a negative perception of crime in Minneapolis didn't reason their way into that belief. I'm not going to be able to reason their way out of it. Before it was the "crime wave" it was imaginary "no-go" zones in Cedar-Riverside. Entirely manufactured by right wing media that doesn't...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

Meanwhile projects are still getting built and houses selling as soon as they hit the market so clearly the crime fearing crowd's prognostication of us becoming "the new Detroit" are full of it as usual. I hope that the perception that Minneapolis is racist forces the city (and school board, and Par...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

Which is why it's good news for recovery that residential projects downtown largely have moved forward full steam ahead. It'll be easier for events and retail to come back if there's a nearby population to serve versus trying in vain to argue with the EP crowd about crime.

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar

I think it's more the 'ribbon cutting problem.' Everyone wants to go to a ribbon cutting for a new, shiny piece of infrastructure. The powers that be fund these projects so they can stand with the big scissors and be a part of the celebration. Nobody holds ribbon cuttings for routine maintenance. Th...

I also think they need better connections to the Cities since we do have a big research industry, an entertainment industry and Corporate HQ. I wonder if there would be a way to do a BRT?..or just let private companies do their thing? We could always go back to the Zip Rail plans we abandoned when ...

Re: Bloomington Central Station & South Loop Development

Better than fine I think. When I imagine the average target customer of a business center hotel near the airport, I don't picture a transit user. A hotel to apartment conversion makes the American Blvd station much more valuable than it is today.
