Re: Possible demolition of West Publishing / old jail
Considering that it'll cost $13m to demolish the current buildings, how does $150m in development sound? I think developments like the Vikings stadium has distorted my gauge of the size of developments. Based on a formal analysis conducted for the county, Ramsey County officials are hopeful the rive...

While they're out raising 10's of millions for the DDC, why not raise a few more bucks and include an addition for the Union Gospel Mission Child Care Center? That would be a big step toward making Pedro Park a reality.

Re: Former Macy's Site
Is it possible to re-skin a building like Macy's? I don't mind the looks of the building, but I'm wondering if it had windows, would that increase the chances of attracting tenants? The current design is best suited for a department store or a data center. I've already seen it pop up on some preserv...

Re: 300 University (Old Home Dairy)
Based om what I read in The Villager, I think the renderings of this project can be scrapped. "The original plan called for an new four story addition to the Old Home building ... the National Parks Service determined that addition would overshadow the historic structure. It recommended attachi...

Re: St. Paul Restaurant News
I think a great redevelopment opportunity was missed at Western and Selby. I think the Urban League building is still unused, Costello's obviously would have sold, the two CVA buildings were sitting empty. It would have been nice for a developer to come in redevelop that whole section of the block. ...

I am somewhat surprised at the venom directed towards CHS, a farmer's cooperative. I assume people would have been much happier with a well known name like Mosanto or Dupont.

Whatever happened to the movie theaters - are they still intact? I've hoped, that with the increase in people living downtown, they could be reopened and show movies similar to what is available at the Edina Landmark Cinema.

333 on the Park / Sibley Square
"Timberland Partners is nearing a deal to buy the 101-year-old Sibley Square office building in downtown St. Paul, with plans to convert the building to market-rate apartments." This building has large windows that should make for a nice conversion. http://finance-commerce.com/2014/07/anot...

Sure beats The Penfield (not hard to do that). So the sides of the building that are visible when looking toward the river are blue, and those visible when looking toward the bluffs are brown?

Is there room for restaurants/bars along the southwest side of the building. The sidewalk out front is massive and would overlook the park, perfect for outdoor dining.

Right now the areas that have the butterscotch color panels look terrible due to all the metal joints. If you look at the bottom photo, you can see these joints are everywhere. I wonder if there are any plans to cap these joints to make them blend into the panels. I like the rest of the materials us...

Re: Possible demolition of West Publishing / old jail
Downtown St. Paul's problem isn't a lack of parks, it's a lack of people to enjoy the parks. The site can be designed to provide views of the river for the general public. It could also draw people in with restaurants and outdoor dining areas overlooking the river. Personally, I find parks more inte...

Re: Downtown Saint Paul Post Office
Are they allowed to make any changes to the exterior? For example, could they increase the size (height) of the windows - perhaps floor to ceiling windows? And what about the newer structure that is closer to the river - would they be allowed add windows to the corners of that building?

Re: Possible demolition of West Publishing / old jail
As posted on the "Lost Project" topic, this seems to provide a nice mixture of buildings and green space. I can't imagine a project of this size would happen anytime soon, but maybe a scaled down version with buildings in the 15 to 20 story range would be feasible. http://i41.tinypic.com/j...
