Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
In general, Old Navy is the brand that they are growing. Banana Republic and Gap stores are closing. Look for this trend to continue.

Re: Downtown Riverfront - Mill Ruins Park - Waterworks
Those stairs have been closed (and broken) for half a dozen years. It is nothing new this year. Having just taken those stairs this past Wednesday, they’re not even in that bad of shape. Mostly just need to replace some missing boards. I wonder why they’ve decided to ignore them instead of repairin...

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)
It must be pretty rough to have spent the last decade thinking that you were going to get LRT and still be able to keep your giant stroad, and to now realize you might have to choose one or the other. Or that you might be bypassed entirely (Golden Valley) depending on a new alignment. Think about w...

Looks like we'll also be getting rid of at least one side of a billboard. If nothing else, that's an improvement right there.

Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory
I love going to Izzy’s for ice cream, but would never buy it in a grocery store. It’s typically more expensive than even the “premium” brands. And their building is practically useless for any other use. I took a tour during Doors Open last year and I’d wonder how flexible the space is.

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
My take on the signage (at least around Lake of the Isles) is that it could be better, but is actually really easy and clear to understand. Bikes on the bike path, walkers and runners everywhere else. Simple. Bikes follow the rules of the road. If the road is closed to cars, it is closed to bikes. I...

Still one more building to go on the gas station site. This is topped out. The building is thick in person and the area near it is packed full of buildings now.

Not sure where to post this, but it does feature the Nicollet project as an example. It's a story on comparing renderings to the reality of the finished project.

Alternatively, a place like Cancun was specifically “created” to be a tourist destination by the Mexican government.

Ike's is closed permanently. startribune.com/ike-s-food-cocktails-in-downtown-minneapolis-is-permanently-closed/566972891/ They tried to blame their closing on crime just like Rojo did. That's not what the article actually says. He cites failed lease negotiations meant to "address restaurant and ma...

Re: Nicollet Mall
It looks like the planters started being delivered last week. As far as I can tell, it looks like there are two sizes roughly the same size as the bollards outside the hotels at the south end of Nicollet. Not sure what kind of plants will be in them, but if I had to make a guess, I would expect some...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
Often I've thought it would be neat to put an iconic large sculpture overlooking the 35W/94/55 mess of ramps entering downtown. I was thinking just south of the Sherwinn Williams building parking lot or near the corner of it. The idea is that as people coming into Downtown via the LRT or car their ...

I kayaked under the bridge on Friday afternoon. They were definitely working in the area around the old bridge and doing some piledriving, but it was difficult to see exactly what they were working on.

I would prefer The Mall be an art park/sculpture garden type space. A nice visual way to walk from the library to Lake of the Isles. It seems more fitting for the Uptown vibe than sport courts.
