Re: Hopkins - General Topics
Any idea what the feedback was? No idea. But I doubt staff would voice feedback about density proposed. More likely about façade facing Mainstreet and the Center of the Arts being plain and comparatively non-distinct to what it’s replacing. Sun Sailor had a bit on it: https://www.hometownsource.com...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
Here's a photo update for the Met Council meeting next week. https://metrocouncil.org/Council-Meetings/Committees/Metropolitan-Council/2020/12-9-20/SWLRT_UPDATE-PPT.aspx Thanks! I liked seeing the different angle of the Shady Oak Station. I've walked past that a couple times, but you can only see i...

It's Opus. You can see the Optum building on 62 in the background. The photo of Opus Station appears to actually be the Golden Triangle Station.

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
Just because I was curious (and looking at St. Cloud train stations for something else)... The Amtrak station in St. Cloud is, from a transit user's perspective, ideal because it places you in town but it lacks available parking. The NorthStar Link lot fits with the other NorthStar stations, which a...

Re: Hopkins - General Topics
Now that you mention the facade, doesn't the lot fall in the area of mainstreet that has a few guidelines of what buildings can look like? I forget where the zone is and what the guidelines are exactly but I know it's in place to keep to a similar style. https://www.hopkinsmn.com/197/Downtown-Overl...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
Are the plans for the extension to St. Cloud to end at the current park and ride outside of town or at the Amtrak station in East St. Cloud? I mean, I think that using the Amtrak station is a no-brainer, what with the existing bus infrastructure and all, but I have the sinking suspicion that, like t...

Re: Hopkins - General Topics
Word is that Beard (decades-long property owner of this site and apartment developer) pulled back the proposal after getting feedback from city staff, and will resubmit after adjustments. Any idea what the feedback was? I'm guessing that there were complaints of too many units. God forbid we have d...

Random find: https://www.hopkinsmn.com/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_08042020-186 Apparently there was a denial of a variance to turn an existing single-family home on 7th Ave into an up-down duplex. To be honest, it seems ridiculous that the variance was denied for the sake of restricting as many h...

Re: Hopkins - General Topics
So, they've been up for a couple months now... Anyone else think that the new directional signs downtown are horrendously misguided? They're at varying heights, and most of them seem too high up to be of any good use. I mean, are they meant for pedestrians? If so, shouldn't they be at a more comfort...

I'm also a cord-cutter. Ditched cable over a year ago when we got an Apple TV for Christmas. We chose that over the Roku simply because of i teroperability with our iDevices and our Mac, but I'm sure we would have been equally happy with a different streaming box. Here's our setup now: -Apple TV int...

Hm. Many fond memories of that parking lot on Powell. Used it as a parade rehearsal space.Japs Olson bought the ARCA building to tear down to put up employee parking. Current employee parking is along Powell Road, this parking will go away with the plant expansion.
C'est la vie.

Really, I am excited to see a little more density in downtown Hopkins...
...But is it wrong that I found the single family home variances more interesting? Maybe it's because my kids play with the Polston kids.
