Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
He neglected to mention that this will also serve the airport and the Mall of America (unless the MOA is part of "Downtown Bloomington"). Just because there is a cheaper option doesn't automatically mean its the better option. Also he forgot to mention that in addition to the B Line on Lak...

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors
Does the Rush Line get a "letter" line code now that it is going to be BRT? I REALLY think it should be colors for LRT, letters for BRT, numbers for local. That makes sense! Red and Orange.... but they are BRT? WHAT!? no. Fix it! I don't have a problem with a color for each BRT route. I k...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
Well, never voting GOP, they've gone too far.
Great job Republicans. If you have your way we still already have two light rail lines in operation, or are they going to try to pull up the rails and burn the light rail cars like its the 1950s?

Re: Counties Transit Improvement Board (CTIB)
I like the two-tier tax idea. I'd be willing to pay more and live in an area with good transit rather than paying less but having inadequate transit. As for autonomous cars, while I do believe dial-a-ride services and lightly used suburban local routes may get the chopping block, the trunk/arterial ...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
Anyone know when Metro Transit will retire the Gillig Phantom buses? I thought all of them were gone but my commute to school (Route 589) had one.

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail
CalTrain ordered double-deck Stadler EMUs which don't comply with FRA standards but do have a crash energy management system (pretty much the same as how modern cars are designed, in which the front absorbs most of the energy from a collision). The FRA granted them a waiver as long as a couple other...

Sad but not too surprising with 638 ending.
With the funding for Southwest Station-MOA service I wonder if it will be an express route or make stops in between.

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
Even at 20-25' away from their window, I find it hard to imagine (even 3-car full LRT) trains moving at 20-25 mph every 5 minutes (one in each direction) would be worse than the traffic on 46th St. I know it's not helpful to go and tell people how to feel (so, I won't), but haven't many studies sho...

Re: Met Council 2040 Transportation Policy Plan (TPP)
Anyone know Randal O'Toole? I heard him talk at the State Office Building yesterday. When he was finally done I wanted to punch a wall. Some of his talk was criticism of the Met Council and how it has too much influence over a large area (he said even the St. Cloud area is influenced by the Met Coun...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
46th Street ABRT between Edina and West 7th going through the Ford Site sounds like a better option than making a big detour for Riverview through the Ford Site and making travel time to the airport and MOA longer.

Bus crashed into house in Columbia Heights-http://www.startribune.com/bus-crashes-into-columbia-heights-house/411380785/ Metro Transit says the bus wasn't theirs, so I'm guessing First Transit. Its still too early to say what the cause of this crash was, but I'm beginning to be concerned about the s...

Discontinued Bus Routes
I kept some Metro Transit brochures from when the Hiawatha Line (Blue Line) opened and noticed some routes that no longer exist or have changed quite a bit and was wondering if anyone has information on them (specific routing, frequency, why it was cut, when it was cut, etc.). Route 586-Served the 8...

I fly Sun Country just because its usually cheaper than Delta, plus now I have a UFly membership so I have more incentive to fly them.

"You're making it sound like I want this done in a year." wait what? so what? timeline of 2 years? I'm guessing its too late/too complicated to put some DMUs on the Dan Patch Line during all this construction to give people an option across the river without having to deal with traffic? C...

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail
SkyScraperKid-Well, it doesn't necessarily have to be DMUs. Perhaps lease some locomotives and coaches. You're making it sound like I want this done in a year. I realize this would take quite a bit longer, and the various studies and meetings would have to be streamlined. twincitizen-How about you t...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project
Why would a freight railroad suddenly want to get in the business of passengers? Other than they both run on rails, it's a totally different business. And is there a whole fleet of Budd RDCs sitting unused somewhere in usable shape? We certainly could build platforms quickly and easily, and even ma...
