Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail
Come back to haunt whom? I don't think Hopkins is shedding any tears over not having TC&W rerouted to that alignment. Haunt the city or cities that would be served by a transit line. For example if the townhouses in Kenwood weren't built to allow enough right-of-way for light rail, freight rail...

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail
Since hell would freeze over before Kenilworth accepted regional passenger trains, I think the best bet for routing from western Minnesota is reusing the old BN Hopkins Spur that was abandoned in the 70s. But even that has challenges. Starting with the fact that there's a freeway interchange (169/E...

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail
Do you know why the "iron triangle" ever ceased to exist? I'm assuming traffic just dried up in the 80s as the MN&S was being taken over by the Soo. Might also be because there were more efficient routings for interchanging between MN&S/Soo and BN than the iron triangle. Too bad t...

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail
Yeah, the SWLRT studies pretty much guarantee Dan Patch won't go on the current TC&W line without spending a whole lot of money to upgrade it, probably taking quite a few houses in the process. No way commuter rail costing that much would fly. Time to start thinking about alternative routes. If...

Re: High Speed Rail MSP to Rochester
As a Bloomington resident it would be great to have a high speed rail terminal in our town with easy access to the Mall of America and MSP Airport. From a transit planning perspective however it just doesn't seem right to stop just short of either downtowns. While I assume there would be an easy tra...

I had a feeling Route 675 would eventually become a limited-stop route. Now if we could get faster service between Minneapolis and Wayzata at off-peak hours.

Re: "A Line" Snelling Avenue Arterial Bus
I was on the first full length trip between 46th Street Station and Rosedale. Overall I like it and it seems to have a good travel time. I don't travel on Snelling often, but I'll definitely use it to get to Grand Avenue, the State Fair, Rosedale, and a short-cut way between the Blue Line and Green ...

Delta began daily non-stop service between MSP and Rome today. Flights are between June and August. http://www.startribune.com/delta-starts-flying-to-rome-from-msp-this-afternoon/381547851/ Is there a small number of people that could take advantage of this flight for connecting onward from Rome via...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
Midway Books is horrible. I've been in twice, both times the owners were there talking loud enough for anyone around to here, using racial epithets to describe the people walking around on Snelling/University. They clearly despise the neighborhood, I'm not sure why they don't move. Last year I was ...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project
More proof BRT is hardly "light rail on rubber tires" though. Without dedicated ROW, this bus will feature weaving and lurching harming ride quality during congested rush hours on 35W. "Buses are better because they're flexible and can easily be routed where demand is." Signed, ...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project
I did. Nice to see that the local routes in Bloomington and Edina will be improved, I just wish it would happen sooner. I asked about funding from the state and they said hopefully there will be a special session in order to get the funding requested for this project, which I believe was $10 million...

^^Suggestion-Extend Line 1 (Red) or Line 6 (Blue) to Southwest Station This is not as close as it looks on his angular map. The Red and Blue (on this map) end at Mall of America. To "extend" to Southwest Station is 12 miles!!! I know, but the extension would serve the American Blvd./I-494...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
So the West 7th Business Association opposes light rail on West 7th. Some businesses along West 7th have signs for signing a petition against light rail. Would they be willing to compromise with the hybrid rail option (streetcar on West 7th, light rail on CP Rail Spur and Blue Line), or is anything ...

Re: Buses vs Rail and Cars vs Transit
I've walked in numerous European cities and to me it feels like walking in downtown Minneapolis or St. Paul. But if we're talking outer ring suburbs then absolutely there is a night and day difference in pedestrian and bike friendliness. I feel safer biking in Minneapolis than my home town of Bloomi...
