Re: What if We Shut Down Our Transit System?
The typical congestion argument (transit reduces congestion!) has always been a loser for the pro-transit crowd. I think it's pretty safe to say that transit doesn't impact congestion in any meaningful way and won't for the foreseeable future. Indeed if we completely shut down our transit system, m...

What if We Shut Down Our Transit System?
For a moment, let's pretend we actually agree to what the anti-transit, pro-automobile groups say. The Met Council is either stripped of it's power or is taken over by a much more conservative leadership. No more light rail, as in the extension of the Blue and Green lines are dropped. And to make su...

Re: Robert Street Corridor Arterial BRT
I suggested a trolleybus (buses with overhead wires) as a compromise between ABRT and streetcar. I forget the reason why it wasn't looked at but I feel it would be a good compromise for this corridor; cheaper bus, but permanence of a streetcar line.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
Here's a presentation about improvements to the High Frequency network over the next two years, as well as general service improvements. http://metrocouncil.org/Council-Meetings/Committees/Transportation-Committee/2016/April-11,-2016/2016-Hi-Freq.aspx New additions planned seem to be the the 2, 54 ...

Re: "C Line" Penn Avenue aBRT & Community Works Project
Delayed a year. http://www.startribune.com/north-minneapolis-rapid-bus-project-on-penn-avenue-faces-new-delay/375587041/ But of course we have $2 million to waste on a few dozen riders along the 169 corridor. To be fair at least they cut their losses instead of trying to make it last for two years ...

Re: Fantasy maps
https://www.flickr.com/photos/141802592@N05/shares/2349oz I also have concept maps of the Metro and Metro Arterial system, but those are currently in progress. Here is a suburban regional rail system that would be similar to Germany's S-Bahn with all day service in each direction. Highest frequency ...

Re: Minnesota Valley regional rail (Shakopee, Mankato, beyond)
An update on this project: http://www.mankatofreepress.com/news/mankato-to-metro-passenger-rail-back-on-the-agenda/article_d18d24e2-d681-11e5-94b9-cf2c9723094e.html Talks about starting with bus service between Mankato and Shakopee. I'm guessing travelers would connect to/from the MVTA at one of the...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
I apologize if this has been asked before, but far down the road if they wanted to tunnel under the East Bank to improve travel time and keep all the idiots on Washington Avenue from walking in front of a train would there be vibration problems like what occurred with the current project, and how ca...

Re: Como-Harriet Streetcar Line
This winter I walked some of the old ROW of this streetcar route in south Minneapolis and Edina. It would be great to have streetcar service extended to Southdale or Hopkins, but as a potential compromise to save on cost, lessen the worry from residents about noise and other impacts, and assuming th...

Re: Midtown Greenway
It was suggested somewhere else before, but with the spur leading towards U of M's East Bank abandoned it would be a good opportunity to have the Midtown Streetcar go across the river and head north to the U connecting with the Green Line's Stadium Village Station. Whether it would be alongside the ...

Re: Dakota Rail Corridor
The TC&W corridor or a corridor to the north (Luce Line) wouldn't serve destinations that the Dakota Rail Corridor would other than Hutchinson. The Dakota Rail Corridor's purpose would also be to serve some of the communities of Lake Minnetonka. This would most likely replace the current bus ser...

In addition to TC&W rehabbing the Dan Patch Bridge (Savage Swing Bridge) on the MN&S, CP Railway improved curves on the line to allow 20 mph. speed, up from 10 mph.

Dakota Rail Corridor
Hello all! I've researched the possibility of regional rail on the Dakota Rail Corridor between Minneapolis and Hutchinson for some time and was wondering what you guys think. There are currently no plans or proposals for this, with only a tiny mention in, I believe, a transportation plan from the M...

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail
I set up a Facebook page about this project which you can find here: https://www.facebook.com/DanPatchRail What I believe should be done is this: -Build the Dan Patch Line and Spine Line. The Dan Patch Line would go as far south as Albert Lea, while the Spine Line could go further south since it all...
