Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

I think several of these proposed routes and extensions of existing routes will have extremely low ridership and extremely high subsidy to run them and they wouldn't last long. The ones that connect with the Green Line might have a fighting chance, but besides that I don't have much hope of these ro...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

MVTA and SouthWest Transit have a survey out regarding a systemwide study for changes between 2022 and 2026. Some proposed changes include local routes to connect with the Green Line.

Re: Red Line (Cedar Avenue BRT)

If that is the case then how was AVTS funded? Did the Met Council chip in to build it, and if yes then what gives MVTA the right to charge the Met Council to use a facility they helped pay for? Of course, no matter what the details behind this mess are, MVTA should let it go and allow Metro Transit ...

Re: Red Line (Cedar Avenue BRT)

Here's the response I got from the MVTA: "Thanks for sharing your concerns about Red Line operations. Minnesota Valley Transit Authority agrees with you that public transit agencies should work in a complementary and collaborative manner to make our regional transit system the best and most efficien...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Two things I want to know: 1) Are they really keeping the name 21st Street Station? I'm pretty sure I said this already but I think it deserves repeating since it would be a lost opportunity with the name Kenwood Station. Fun fact: The original owner of the railroad ROW, the Minneapolis & St. Louis,...

Re: Fantasy maps

As much as MnDOT and HOT lane users wouldn't like it, converting the HOT lanes on I-394 into a bi-directional busway would be great for both a BRT service and all the express routes going in/out of downtown. If you want people out of their cars then having buses fly by them while they're stuck in t...

Here's my proposed BRT system for the I-394/Highway 55 Corridor. Similar in design and operation to my proposed BRT routes along the I-494 Corridor except there's more highway running on this one. https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1JhIfuwGn2LdgrRXwtH06WHpHO0DsgipJ&usp=sharing Running on Laurel...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

I highly doubt Robbinsdale would want a streetcar alignment down Broadway anyway. They wanted it to sit in the rail corridor so they could have LRT without the political hassle of dealing with drivers griping about traffic, strip malls griping about construction detours, and residents griping about...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

Before anyone asks, Broadway in Robbinsdale is about 66' wide, which is just about impossible to fit surface LRT in unless the street becomes a pedestrian/transit mall.
Or a mixed-traffic streetcar, which I'm assuming won't be considered.

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

Well, guess we need to put the Blue Line underground through Robbinsdale (sarcasm intended). As was already mentioned, Bottineau Blvd already split Robbinsdale in two. I don't know how others feel, but I feel a lot safer crossing a double-track light rail line than a 4+ lane suburban stroad. But if ...

Re: Red Line (Cedar Avenue BRT)

It would be a shame if people sent emails to all the officials on the bottom of that letter from MVTA's Dorsey flack with three points: - The link to the original letter and that this is a response to the denial of facility use. - Links to tweets showing this is a transit barrier that has literally...

Re: Red Line (Cedar Avenue BRT)

MVTA must have modified the Gilligs to use the platform doors. I recall that the bus driver had something similar to a garage door opener to open the platform doors when the bus arrives. None of the MVTA buses I saw had the station doors open. There’s even a sign at the station saying drivers don’t...

Re: Red Line (Cedar Avenue BRT)

I believe Metro Transit is not using the level platform stops at any of the stations because they were designed with the old buses in mind. MVTA is not using the SB stops or the NB level platform stops at Apple Valley Station because of COVID. When I was on the northbound side on Friday some MVTA b...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

I took the 410 today just for fun and unfortunately but not surprisingly I was the only rider for the entire trip from MoA to Mystic Lake. The bus stop at Valley Fair is actually a small concrete pad they just built and it's located right by the Valley Park Drive & 101 intersection, and it's over a ...
