Re: Federal Building & Post Office redevelopment speculation

Would the NRHP designation prevent building on top of the structure? When I was in Toronto last year, there was a lot of highrise development being done on top of historic buildings there while keeping the facade and majority of the interior intact.

The post office expansion was done really ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

You know, actually—how are downtowns doing in other countries? Hard to compare downtown Minneapolis to a nice Western European city center for 1,000,000 reasons but what about Calgary or whatever? Are Perth and Riyadh back to their regular Monday lunch rush? Can you get a skyscraper for 97% off ...

Re: Sprawl

Certainly Burnsville and EP have their sprawl issues, but IMO nothing really compares to the sprawl along 65 up in Blaine.

I grew up near Northtown Mall. At some point Blaine decided to invest less in that area and more in the 65 Corridor. The city used to be centered on County 10, Highway 10 ...

I think the Trailhead's success shows the success of this. Folks are more likely to enjoy the parks if they have a place to warm up, get some food and a warm bathroom to change sweaty icky clothes.

Graco Park now open. Across 8th Ave NE/Plymouth Ave bridge from Boom Island. Looks pretty good and has some neat stormwater retention features. Building to open next year.

I passed through it yesterday. There wasn't anything to keep someone at the park. A few benches and a scraggily beach. The ...

I've been reading a bit about the history of retail downtown and was surprised to find that this building was once a bustling shopping center. From the exterior, I've always thought it was another office building with a wrap-around parking garage at its base. Of course, it has always been kinda ...

Municipal Consent from Minneapolis passes out of committee on a 5-1 vote , despite Vetaw's best efforts to kill it on behalf of the subset of her constituents that she cares about.

It also appears that the Washington/Broadway station will be added, though probably without adjusting the other ...

My guess is the insider is former CM Goodman.

"How new ownership would go about funding the stadium remains unclear, but without a doubt, Lore and A-Rod would want public funding for this project. The problem with doing that in Minneapolis, according to Shama’s reporting, is the Minneapolis City ...

If it ends up being Downtown, it needs to serve the community somehow. Whether it's part of a larger development meeting needs, or infrastructure needs, or financing a fund to help with affordable housing or something.

Is the main issue pedestrian safety? One article stated,

"“There’s been three fatalities in three years between 2016 and 2019, and there were six fatalities in the six years before that,” Blanchard said on Tuesday."

It seems like there are other ways to fix this than converting the whole thing to ...

Re: New Pedestrian & Bike Bridge Connecting North and Northeast

I always imagined that if we got a LRT tunnel through downtown, this bridge + 3rd/4th viaduct corridor + another level on the tunnel + NP #9 bridge would make an excellent through-running route for all regional/intercity passenger services to through-route Minneapolis.

Excellent point. No ...

The alternative location for the bridge is just south of the BNSF bridge. I don't see the bridge as worth it if they can't do their preferred lcoation north of the BNSF bridge just north of Broken Clock Brewing.

This isn't as exciting, but this bridge will only be .34 of a mile north of the Broadway Bridge. Why not just modify that bridge?

It's transitioning from LRT specific work to taking steps to return the worksite over to the public upon completion. (I really wish they would ...

I love how it's framed as "200 trains a day!", with no context of how many thousands of private automobiles *already cross this same trail* today.

If we absolutely have to grade-separate this, can we please build a trail bridge and not a 9-figure LRT tunnel???

There's not much traffic here ...

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board

Theodore Wirth Parkway and Golden Valley Road is terrible. I don't understand why when they repaved it they didn't remove the freeway style turn lanes. To go along the Grand Rounds trail you have to cross 4 traffic lanes plus two freeway style turn lanes. That's 6 lanes.

This is what LA is getting for the Clippers. We can't expect anything to this scale, but it gives you an idea of the direction of NBA stadiums.
