Re: Minnesota State Flag and Seal Redeisgn

Alright the loon one is good, was a bit worried that it would be to similar to the state lottery for comfort (and I think I remember someone the reason why none where excepted for the flag is because they really only nest in north and central MN so a good chunk of that state have never seen them in ...

Re: Minnesota State Flag and Seal Redeisgn

Yeah I can see that reasoning. On another subject do they have the finalists for the seals yet or does that come after? Because I'm actually 50/50 if I want to see a loon on it or not.

Re: Minnesota State Flag and Seal Redeisgn

eh Agree, although is hard to predict what the present will be remembered for and how the future will play out so its a bit tricky to represent both in a flag. I only mainly suggest the cross design because it's one of the most easiest features to point out and recognize on a flag. Although I don't ...

Re: Minnesota State Flag and Seal Redeisgn

i might go with the snowflake but I would of changed the yellow star to a cross since iirc MN has the most Scandinavian heritage/decedents out of any state in the US and for better or worse they where as important in the development of the state as the native tribes (actually had a random argument w...

Down to the final 6 flags, any bets on which one it's gonna get chosen?

Re: Suburban Transit (Opt-out Services Providers)

Is the 444 still timed roughly to come between the orange link? I remember talking with some coworkers who work along Egan Dr by Burnsville Center and we all agree there is no "good" way to bike the gap between the orange line and work, a few will attempt to brave Burnsville parkway, but m...

Re: Amtrak: Empire Builder and Great River (TCMC)

Out of curiosity when comparing TF and SPUD, which station to you guys think is currently as is and which one do you think has more potential if they actually had frequent train device?

Re: Amtrak: Empire Builder and Great River (TCMC)

I also think the way it things are currently laid out make things tough. I remember old concept drawings for spuds revival where the platforms would be directly under the hall like it was historical, fast forward to today and the train platform is all the way at the end of the hall in its own little...

Re: Road Geek Topics

imo not gonna do much unless they reconstruct it so people will feel more comfortable driving slower. heck I think I remember reading somewhere that lining the street with some big ass trees right along the curb was enough to get drivers to slow down a bit.

Re: Suburban Transit (Opt-out Services Providers)

I think a lot of people here seem to be against it because it's maybe a step or two above uber or lift in terms of public transit. I'm not as opposed to it as others since the service area isn't huge (your not using it to get from Burnsville to downtown Minneapolis) and they could ideally use as a f...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT

There's also a bunch of new/repaved trails around the opus and city west stations, wayfinding is still a bit of a pain but the tracks can give you a good point of reference and is nicer then biking compared to before construction started,

Re: Freight Rail News and Happenings

I'm actually surprised their doing and I don't know why cause on paper it sounds like the freight railroad equivalent of TOD, but I've never heard of any railroad building spurs to industrial areas they own and presumably renting it out to tenets.

Re: Freight Rail News and Happenings

I also wonder if TC&W will try and ask for anything in SLP cause I remember it was a sour point there where fighting the met council on because of the SWLRT, can't remember if they agreed to something and will keep using the Kenilworth corridor or was convinced to be rerouted to the MN&S Spu...

Re: Freight Rail News and Happenings

https://www.railwayage.com/regulatory/mndot-seeks-applicants-for-freight-rail-service-improvement-projects/ 9.6 million is up for freight companies to grab. Wonder if a certain crash wall could of been a valid application a few years ago. State would of still had to pay for it either way put probabl...

Re: Fare-Free Transit

I'm not against fare free transit in some cases but I think it would only have a marginal increase in ridership if metro transit implemented it system wide in its current state. I don't think the main barrier preventing people from hoping on the bus is the price of a ticket, heck I think it's rather...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT

tbf there's been tracks there for a long time (although are you talking about the lights on 36th or the new-ish ones for highway 7) without too much issue. And brightline have to deal with flordiamen which are a lot worse drivers, although we'll see how bad it'll get now that the Orlando leg is open...

Re: Heritage lines, excursion trains, and other railroad attractions in MN

Might be jumping the gun a bit but CPCK announced their "final spike steam tour" about two months ago and the 2816 should have a stop in MSP (probably at SPUD unless anyone can think of a better spot) in mid to late April.

Re: Freight Rail News and Happenings

I would of thought the bridge on Quentin is more annoying for drivers with that blind stop sign thing.

Also wonder if the track is abandoned whether it'll be turned into a rail trail or saved for a future transit project.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

This is just a random thought I had recently but does anyone else kinda feel like places to park/lock you bike is starting to fall behind our current levels of infrastructure? (Obviously we still could do more in terms of paths and protected lanes, just in comparison). I had a little first hand expe...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT

Anyone old enough to remember when the blue and green lines where being built recall roughly how long it took from them being "almost done with construction" to fully open to the public?
