Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

Just saw the video myself and was about to post it.
Interesting how the trails in the Finnish city seemed to be packed down a little kind of like cross country ski trails and the fact that they project trail markings onto the snow is actually kinda cool.

Re: Hopkins - General Topics

Now that you mention the facade, doesn't the lot fall in the area of mainstreet that has a few guidelines of what buildings can look like?
I forget where the zone is and what the guidelines are exactly but I know it's in place to keep to a similar style.

Re: Hopkins - General Topics

I didn't know that the Beard group already owned the building/land the theater was on. I may take back my early comment about it being 2-3 years before anything is approved cause there might be a lot less hoops to jump through due to having to purchase land if you already own it. Might be soon actua...

Re: Red Line (Cedar Avenue BRT)

I was starting to wondering if the red line was actually profitable enough to warrant this mess.
But redline and profitability in the same line is something I'd be suspicious of given its ridership.

Re: Hopkins - General Topics

I don't know what I'd prefer. Part of me kind of wouldn't mind if someone would turn it into something like the Trylon Cinema or the Uptown Theatre (maybe even change the tower to make it look like the old Hopkins Theater). Part of would be fine with another project like the Moline but on Mainstreet...

Re: Hopkins - General Topics

Bit of some late news but the Manns theater on Mainstreet is now permanently closed.
No idea if another movie theater chain will take it over after the pandemic ends or if the land will be used for a new development.

Re: Minnetonka Area – General Topics

I know the drivers at my work have an old rumor that the circles where partly designed by some European drifting team but most take it with a lot of salt and the rumor probably started with some of said drivers messing around during their high school days. As for the circles themselves, I don't thin...

Re: Red Line (Cedar Avenue BRT)

Wait is MVTA saying they want to take over the Red Line completely or have Metro Transit run it by themselves cause it seems like they might be saying both. If its the former I wonder if they would try and extend the Red Line into downtown since one of the main reasons why Metro Transit didn't was s...

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and Intercity Rail to Chicago

I think some might disagree but I don't really think the goal for HSR in the US should be to get a transcontinental line built per say but to try and make as many shorter routes as possible. The "too short to fly, too far to drive" is kinda becoming a meme at this point but there is some truth to it...

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and Intercity Rail to Chicago

I'm not really surprised, Amtrak has been more aggressive in trying to find ways to cut long distance service ever since Anderson was appointed president (maybe even since Moorman to an extent) and I think is still true with Flynn. Question is does the Twin Cities make the cut for Amtrak's other goa...

Re: Hopkins - General Topics

I wonder which project will be completed first between the Cold Storage site and the Blake Road Station given how there maybe less then 1000 ft away from each other.

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project

Anyone know how much has the project progressed in the past few months?
Cause just if it's still expected to open in 2021 I wonder if it might end up underperforming more than the red line did when it started service.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

I think the final decision to tear it down and rebuild was left with SWtransit. I think I remember something about them wanting to do something TOD with the land the own around the station but I think it was minor at best and I think the main reason was to expand it. Also somewhat disagree that 20 y...

Honestly not surprised about this, wonder if the NLX is just the exception or other shovel ready projects will be put on low priority for the foreseeable future.

Re: Hopkins - General Topics

Combined this with the already existing apartments and the cold storage site and the area around the Blake station might end up being the densest part of Hopkins, and I don't think its in danger of being reduced given its a decent distance away from any single family homes, but I could be wrong. Als...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

Kinda wish they could extend the normandale blvd trail north to cross over 494 to connect to the nine mile trail somehow and maybe laying the groundwork for a good north/south route the somewhat mirrors the 6, but that might be kinda difficult since that would either mean digging a tunnel at 100 or ...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Not sure if it'll speed up the SWLRT by much, but If the outbreak had happened two summers ago, I think they might of been able to close 35W down completely for the Orange Line/Downtown to Crosstown project (or at least save a lot of headaches with how much of a mess that was)

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

I kinda think the hospitalization rate right might be a little more accurate in terms of the overall spread albeit 1-2 weeks behind when factoring the incubation period since it doesn't really matter if you screwed up testing if you need to be hospitalized because of Covid-19 at that point. Know If ...

Re: Work from home and road congestion

You know I wonder if construction on some project might speed up a little given the low traffic levels making it easier to do more extensive work.
