Any of you know a good archive recording the opening and extension of each trail in the cities?
I want to try answering the question of "which years had the most new miles of dedicated bike lanes?"
How I'm going to try this is recording most of the major trails and maybe cycle tracks (ignoring ...

Re: Freight Rail News and Happenings
Maybe, I know in decades past rail roads would tear up everything save one line or let buildings rot because the got charged based on how "developed" a right of way was, but that was years ago so who actually knows what the current rate is.
Best guess is the amount is probably buried somewhere in ...

Re: Freight Rail News and Happenings
There's still no plan to do anything with this branch line right?
I still think it could be used as a rail trail to extend the little that little trail they have going from sunset pond to Kelleher Park. Although I don't know how much of this line would be good for passenger since I think the line ...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
You know what I wonder, if people on the swlrt want to get to the airport, at what point on the line will it be faster to go west and get a transfer at Southwest station then to go east and transfer to the blue line, and fast to either need to be to appeal more than driving/rideshare

If its not going to be open in time for the state fair next year, some's gonna get the grilling of a lifetime (imagine the amount of people who would take it if they made rides free to the fair, even if they had to transfer at Snelling or at some other station)

Re: Suburban Malls and Associated Retail News
You know I wonder how much the malls around the city charge to lease there smaller retail/not anchored spaces and what if any benefits are there to say finding a similar sized strip mall location, or a repurposed stand alone building.
Re: Hopkins
The admittedly messy handling of the site makes me wonder if the city will be a bit more hesitant to sign off on any other big development since while I don't know if there as big as the 325 cold storage site in terms of dollar amount or sqft, there are some decently big sites that are either ...

That does sound like something Hill would do. I think I remember somewhere that the stone arch was made in one small part to spite someone but I think that was just a rumor.

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
Remind me on two things:
Did the original uptown routing plan to use the midtown greenway trench?
And if so when did the trench get converted from a rail spur to the trail we have today?
I ask because while there is an overlap between transit advocates/users and bicycle advocates/users, their not ...

Kind of feel left out since if I'm being honest, I'd rather get a burger from Freddie's (might even choose a burger from kwiktrip on a pure "not break my wallet" value option)

The only thing about the lakes I might argue is people from the western suburbs might favor the western lakes over the ones in the chain of lakes either because its their "home lake", less crowded, more to do, etc.

This is and a few other projects makes me wonder how much debt/bonds is the state allowed to issue every year? Because while several people have already pointed at things that probably makes it cost a lot, I still think the fact that there's no big pile of cash reserved for transit projects ...

Looking at the timeline and thinking of other projects around the metro, I wonder if the bloated timeline is a little bit of "we don't have enough money right now so where gonna extend things and hope we get the rest later" or "where gonna make this a coinvent political football for the next few ...

I saw on a local railroad Facebook group that 2 locomotives and 8 coaches are on the move this evening heading to Texas, where they're being leased by Trinity Railway Express of Dallas/Fort Worth for the World Cup. It had me wondering if TRE would end up buying and keeping them, but TRE has ...

Kwik trips attempted expansion to the inner ring suburbs continues, this time eyeing a lot on Minnetonka Blvd. and 169 where the old Sinclair gas station is/right across the street from the outlook apartments.

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
Thanks for all the links, this really helps me out because maybe it's due to frequenting more rail biased places but a surprisingly amount of them paint road/highway infrastructure as not existing before the intertstate system beyond some mud, dirt, or maybe archaic cobblestone roads and that most ...

Don't know if this is the best place/thread to ask but does anyone know any good books or reports on road and highway projects, construction etc. of the state from before WWII/the interstate system.

wouldn't it just be cheaper to hire more staff or security to be a permanent presence and some of these stations?
Maybe, this is just some of the back of the napkin math but assuming you want at least one officer at each station at all times that's 6,935 billable hours, assuming it still runs ...

as a counterpoint, I think I recall something about the new turnstiles for the new york subway being a bit underwhelming for their cost at best, think so far its cut down evasion by 20-30% but the cost was about 1.1 billion.
