Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but when ever looked into the history behind the blue line, Jessie Ventura's name pops up both self claiming that he's the reason why it got built despite the GOP and DFL digging in their heels and that there would of been more lines built if he had gotten a second te...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Not to be too much of a downer, but I would of thought that after 20 years we would of had more then 2 frequent train lines in the cities (although tbf I was 6 and probably didn't know anything beyond it was cool) I wonder how we compare to other cities in terms of how long it takes to add more rail...

Re: Amtrak: Empire Builder and Borealis (TCMC)
I'm guessing the 30 mins time saving comes from the chargers running around with maybe 3 or 4 horizon cars instead of the full empire builder sleeper train consist Also here's hoping it doesn't take another 9 years to add a 3rd train, maybe if we ever get up to 4 a day SPUD will actually start to fe...

Re: Red Rock Corridor
I forgot this thing existed, maybe they saw some DMU's like the staddler or what ever siemens has (sprinter?) and thought that since there about LRT size and not as big as Northstar they must be LRT But still thought this project was just another thing that "we'll could make an official study a...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
I think some people might disagree, but thinking about some of the discussion about burying/cap and covering I-94, I kinda think highway 7 between 100 and 494 might be better suited in small sections in Hopkins and SLP. I kinda view that section of 7 as what my parents used to say 169 was like befor...

Found this somewhat relevant: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5pPKfzzL54 Does freight exist? Does that bed in a box you ordered from Amazon magically coalesce inside the Amazon van when it pulls up in front of your house? Like the transporter in Star Trek? The guy has some great jargon that he's j...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project
I'm just surprised that the college didn't at least try and petition a shuttle too and from 98th station since it is still a major transfer point even without the orange line, But no only the U gets fancy stuff like that. I no longer go there but I recall hearing that the schedule for the 539 and 54...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project
Out of curiosity does anyone have ridership numbers for the old 535 and 465/460 pre orange line? The former is arguable what the line replaced and I remember some packed buses when I used to go to Normandale, although I'm not sure how low it got when the pandemic hit. The later while I wounding say ...

Re: Gold Line BRT (Gateway Corridor)
That video did a pretty good job describing the differences between the "types" of BRT, but hung onto the cost thing a bit more than I would have liked. Also, the people he were interviewing (assuming Metro Transit reps) said some pretty refreshing things, especially the network vs corrid...

Re: Gold Line BRT (Gateway Corridor)
Interesting little takeaways I didn't consider before is one of the reasons LRT is much more expensive is that there's not many construction firms who specialize in building out LRT where for better or worse I'm sure there's serval dozen companies in the state alone who have been fine tunning road ...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
I think there might be plans to reroute the 612 off mainstreet unfortunately since downtown hopkins station has a planned loop built in and its awkward to get to coming down 7th, There might be a case to increase the 615 to half an hour frequency since it gets close to 3 or 4 of the stations but tha...

Re: Suburban Transit (Opt-out Services Providers)
Yeah while I say this as someone who works along the 42 corridor and would greatly benefit from this is unlikely. if MVTA really wanted to test the waters they could make the 444 a half hour service along the route (currently iirc its an hourly service because half the schedule service terminates at...

Re: Hopkins - General Topics
Yeah the southbound 169 to westbound Excelsior is annoying since half the drivers keep going at highway speeds on to excelsior, and the other half will come to a complete stop and almost case a few fender benders cause that right hand turn can seem a bit sharp. If I'm coming home and don't have some...

Re: Interstate 94
I kinda prefer the former because it creates redundancies (I remember how fun it was trying to cross the ferry bridge when 35 was down), plus imo a grade separated freeway is still preferable to a strode with dozens of unsafe crossings, although you can argue that the latter is easier to convert.

I went to visit family in some growing cities in the sunbelt last winter, I know how massive those beltways can get.

Kinda disagree since iirc one original studies that first looked at the concept of induced demand in highways noted that parallel routes were often the lesser of two evils over just expanding one by the same amount of lanes as the actual induced demand was notable less, it created redundancies for b...

Re: Interstate 94
I was thinking about the proposed reimagining of i94 and supposing they go full out with the boulevard idea. Is anyone else getting the sinking idea that it might be a case of 1 step forward, 2 or even 3 steps back as I wouldn't be surprised if plans to widen 36, 5, and maybe 62 geta introduced and ...
